The first meeting of the Wawanosh
Drama Club was held at the home of
Mary Ellen Jefferson on May 3.
The leaders of the club, Cathy
Drennan and Eileen George, opened
the meeting with the 4-H Pledge
followed by a get-acquainted
activity. The game, Identify Your
Partner familiarized members with
each other. This game consisted of
finding a person who had a match to
the character you had on your back
by asking questions of the other
members.
Eileen discussed the different
aspects of drama and led a drama
activity called, Introducing Yourself
Using Expressions. This involved
having the members introduce
themselves in an expressive and
unique way.
Kristina Drennan, youth leader, led
the election of officers. Ellen
Jefferson was elected president,
Jolande Oudshorn, vice-president
and Nicole Boyle, press reporter.
The name, Precious Performers
was decided on for this club. Kristina
then led the prologue or the roll call,
If you have seen or been to a play,
tell us the name of it and where you
saw it. If you have never been to a
play tell of your favourite TV show.
All members had enjoyed a play at
various places.
Following the prologue, Kristina
led a drama activity called Shake It,
It’s Me.
Cathy and Eileen then presented
the business part of the meeting
which included future meeting dates
and field trips. Cathy discussed the
fundraiser barbecue which would
take place in Goderich at the TSC
store on July 5.
The final drama activity involved
storytelling using props and a
storytelling stick which was a
tradition used by the Aboriginals.
Cathy handed out a word search
and a crossword using drama terms
to be completed by the members.
The meeting closed with the
motto.
The second meeting was held on
May 12 at the home of Eileen
George. Members said the 4-H
Pledge which was followed by
several drama activities such as Pass
the Squeeze, a storytelling game and
a game called Fortunately and
Unfortunately.
President, Ellen Jefferson led the
prologue, Tell the origin of your last
name and if anyone in your family
has been involved in drama.
Leaders Eileen and Cathy talked
about different kinds of amateur and
professional theatre and theatre
venues which existed or still exist
today.
The members split into groups and
were given a part of a play to act out.
