Three of Hullett Central Public School students participated admirably that day, Dylan W., Rebecca A-F and Stephanie D. The school’s annual track and field day will be held on Thursday, May 22 and the children are practising daily at home and at school. If you are in the area of the school on Friday, May 16, don’t be confused. You won’t be seeing double. The student council is holding a Twin Day, a chance for pupils to pair up and dress alike. On April 30, the Londesborough Happy Gang Seniors met for their monthly meeting at the Londesborough Community Hall. Following their potluck meal they heard a most interesting presentation by Bruce Whitmore. Several months ago the CCM (Christian Council for Mozambique), invited Bruce to visit their country as a Canadian representative. A translator accompanied them as no English is spoken in Mozambique. The country is still struggling to improve conditions for their citizens since securing independence from Portugal in 1975. The people expressed a desire for Bibles for their churches, money to train pastors, help to care for oprhan children and education for their children. Without the aid of proper tools, school construction is precarious. Children in Mozambique have never seen toys for they spend their days helping their families survive. His stay of eight days opened his eyes to conditions in this poor country. While there the group had a diet of chicken and rice. And Bruce found he liked their beer. His eight- day stay was spent in the same clothes as his luggage was lost in transport along with a new camera. Bruce and wife, Margaret, have done many presentations on behalf of the Mozambique Garden Project. This project is an attempt to give a hand-up to these people with regard to food and medicine. The people there need a two-part garden of vegetables and herbal plants. Vegetables are grown for food and retail. Herbal plants can be used for their native, natural cures. Seed money is needed for seeds, plants and tools and to train an agronomist. Moreover, an irrigation pump will extend the growing season when the rains stop. The senior group showed their appreciation by presenting Mr. Whitmore with a cheque for his project in Mozambique. The Happy Gang Seniors will host groups from Auburn and Blyth at their meeting on May 28. Entertaining that afternoon will be the Bag Ladies from Goderich. Twin day for students Rev. Pat Cook will be conducting a Christian Family Service and the sacrament of baptism at Londesborough United on Mother’s Day, May 11. Londesborough United Church will serve a Mother’s Day ham and salad supper at the Londesborough Community Hall on Saturday, May 10 from 5 - 7 p.m. Tickets are available from Lynda, Joan and Traci or the church office. The Londesborough Lions Club will again be releasing the ducks on May 25. Contact a Lion member for a ticket/duck. There will be more details regarding the race in a future column closer to the event. Elaine Fraser, who lives at the end of Trueman Street in the home previously owned by Jack and Marion Snell, will hold a yard sale on Saturday, July 5. Proceeds from her sale will benefit the Blyth Legion. However, experience has shown that more people will be attracted to her sale if more families in the village set up some tables. Over the next few weeks perhaps you, too, can find some items to recycle in this manner. I’m going out on a limb to suggest that anyone from outside the village may be accommodated in the yard at Radford’s Farm Equipment. A sign-up sheet for village yard sales is posted at the post office. NEWS FROM LONDESBORO Seniors hear of mission trip By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO
