Fire protection adviser Jamie
Zimmerman from the Ontario Fire
Marshal’s office was at the North
Huron council meeting Monday
night to extend special recognition to
Blyth fire chief Paul Josling and
Wingham chief Harley Gaunt.
In addressing council,
Zimmerman said it was “all good
news tonight”, adding that he was
presenting North Huron with a
certificate of compliance.
In 1997 a framework for fire
protection was legislated.
Departments, said Zimmerman,
were not mandated to deliver fire
education programs. A survey was to
be completed, along with fire risk
assessments, fire escape programs,
public education and fire inspections
Zimmerman commended the two
North Huron fire chiefs on well-
managed departments. “They are
effective and efficient fire
departments,” said Zimmerman.
He said that North Huron was one
of the first surveys under his
authority to have been completed,
and added that it was “an absolute
pleasure. (Josling and Gaunt) not
only do a good job as chiefs but they
are good people too.”
Congratulations was also extended
to deputy-clerk Kathy Adams for her
assistance on the survey.
Councillor Archie MacGowan and
deputy-reeve Murray Scott, also
congratulated the chiefs and Adams.
“It was an enormous amount of work
putting the survey together,” said
MacGowan.
