The Citizen, 2008-04-10, Page 2Even if it’s snowing somewhere
else, it’s definitely spring in
Brussels. The robins are cheering on
the growing weather with their
pretty songs. The warm rain of last
week put water in places not
necessarily desired. The snowbanks
slipped away and the green sprouts
started to glow. Oh yes, it’s spring.
Talking to Philip on Saturday,
Hinton, Alberta was at 12 degreeswhile Edmonton and Whitecourtwere having a proper snowstorm.Just like here a few miles tells avery different story.Phil’s education in the many rolesof a firefighter has expanded greatlyworking in the oil field. Things likedrilling and pumping and the safetyof the operation are now routine.
Monitoring for sour gas and learning
about the swiftness its properties
and the devices that keep the
workers safe has sure been
interesting as a parent.
The care and concern for the
wildfire near the oil activity have
been good to hear about as well. A
pack of wolves shut the drilling
operation down for part of a day last
month – the dollar figure on that
would stun you, but the safety of themen was paramount. There’s not much spring in JoshuaGropp’s step these days. Joshuabadly broke his foot on EasterMonday and underwent surgery inStratford last Thursday. He’s on themend at home now and thecommunity wishes him well. There should be a lot of other
folks, though, doing extra exercise
this week. It was entertainment and
eat out weekend here. Thursday the
Catholic members offered a lasagna
dinner to the community.
Friday the United folks sold out
tickets for Music and Madness and a
beef dinner. Familiar songs will
never be the same when you think
about how this Cambridge group of
four dressed for the number. Lots of
fun and great food.On Saturday the Optimist Clubheld its yearly fun and fundraisernight at BMG Centre. Lots ofsupporters had a great time, enjoyedBeth Earl’s good food and supportedthe club in the auction – silent andnot-so-silent kind. The Make A WishFoundation made a presentation oftheir work and how it supports kids
and their families.
So all in all, our community once
again was well fed and as usual was
ready with great support for the
good of many.
The Maitland Foundation dinner
is coming on April 18. Get your
tickets soon.
Now on to the mundane of life –
sticks to pick up and garbage from
who knows where to move. Ah
spring.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
