He was the husband of the late Rachel Cook who predeceased him in 1957. Surviving is one daughter, Jean, Mrs. John Leiper, Weston; a son Clarence of Clin- ton and one stepson Robert Schrenk of Kenmore N.Y. Also surviving are one sister Mrs. Rae Shaddock, Clinton, seven , grandchildren and one great- grandson. The late Mr. Neilans rested at the Ball Funeral Home where funeral services were held Nov. 10, 1973 with Rev. G.L. Royal of Goderich of- ficiating. Interment was in Clinton Cemetery, Pallbearers were Jim Leiper, ti Randall Glew, Bert Gliddon, Oscar Preistap, Don Kay and Ray Finch. Flower bearers were Bill Cook, Carl Schrenk, Bill Routley and Blair Graham, SPECIAL. SERVICE Knox United Church Sunday school held their anniversary last Sunday with Rev. Charles Lewis of St. David's United Church, Sarnia, as the guest speaker. Pastor Alfred Fry was in charge of the service and was assited by the Sunday school superintendent, Ronald Hallam, The service of song was led by the church organist, Mrs. Norman Wightman, The Sunday school pupils, with their teachers, Mrs. Ross An- drews, Mrs, Leonard Archam- bault, Mrs. James Schneider and the Sunday school leader, Mrs. Brian Hallam, occupied the centre seats of thesanctuary. The choir composed of young people and children, sang two anthems "Say did you know?" and "We're God's People." The children in the centre pews joined in with the choir. The offering was received by the ushers, David. Glousher, Wayne McDowell, Douglas IVIcClinchey and Glen Wight- man, Mr. Lewis chose for his theme-Lazarus and the World. A dedication was held when Ronald Hallam, accepted a projector for the Sunday school from Pastor Alfred Fry, After he dedicated it Pastor Fry paid tribute to the late Charles Scott. SOCIAL NEWS Friends and neighbours of the 13 of Hullett Township are looking forward to hear Colin Fingland of Wingham tell the history of Walkerburn at the Hullett Central school at Londesboro on Saturday November 17 at 2 p.m. Rev, and Mrs. Charles Lewis and family of Sarnia were guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wightman and family. Winners at the weekly euchre party in the Auburn Com- munity Memorial hall were: Haines. Mr. and Mrs, Larry Glasgow of Eleamsville visited last Saturday with Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. and Mrs, Thomas Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Allison Gardhouse and Mark of Midland were weekend guests of their aunt, Mrs. Beth Lan- sing. Mrs, Celia Taylor and Mr. and Mrs, Ronald Rathwell of Parkhill attended the funeral of their cousin, Miss Etta English of Chatham last Satur- day. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hum- phrey and daughter, Carolyn of Cambridge visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mrs. Orval McPhee is a patient in University hospital, London, we wish her a speedy recovery, Neighbours of Mr. and Mrs. Orval McPhee, when they lived in West Wawanosh, gathered at their home in the village recen- tly to give them a farewell gift, A soctat time was enjoyed and Bill Robertson read an address and Bert Moss presented them with a gift. Mr. and Mrs. Orval McPhee thanked their neigh- bours. A large crowd attended the benefit dance for Mr. and Mrs. Ross Youngblut in the Auburn Community Memorial hall, Mr. and Mrs. Youngblut lost their barn by fire this past summer. RUBY EVENT After dinner the evening was spent playing euchre. Mr. and Mrs. Daer thanked all their family and relatives for the dinner and gifts to mark this occasion. A decorated anniver- sary cake centred the table, Mrs. Frances Clark and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock visited Wingham hospital last Sunday where Christine Stadelmann is a patient following an accident where she was scalded with hot water. Officiating, in a set- ting of candelabras, baskets of mauve, pink mums, glads and delphiniums, was Rev. Wm. Anderson of Oxford Centre and Rev. Thomas Giffin, Lambeth, Rector of Trinity Anglican Church, Lambeth, scene of the nuptials, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 12, 1973. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Strapp; London, and of the late George Palmer. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh MacCrostie, RR 5 Goderich. Given in marriage by Jon Strapp of London, the bride was lovely in her princess styled lagoda floor length gown, the high collar trimmed with guipure lace, matching the bands of lace on the lily point Sleeves and bodice. Her chapel length train was held in place „with sa rose of lagocia.s.Her, 1,ingea4ip ,veil fell ..frerti. , a 'Juliette cap, The bride carried an arrangement of three or- chids with trailing ivy, pink variegated carnations and baby's breath. Matron of honor was Mrs. Kathy Thomas, London, wearing a princess styled dress of American Beauty rose velvet with sheer neckline and sleeves trimmed with pink, mauve and green lace. Bridesmaids were sisters of the bride and groom, Misses Connie Palmer, Kit- chener and Annette MacCrostie of Clinton. They wore princess styled gowns of deep purple velvet with sheer sleeves and neckline trimmed with pink, mauve and green lace. Flower girl was a niece of the bride, Miss Sherry Lee Palmer, Lon- don wearing a princess styled gown of American Beauty rose velvet trimmed with mauve, pink and green lace. All the at- tendants carried purple mums, heather, baby's breath, pink carnations and ivy. Groomsman was Paul Black of Goderich and ushering guests were Gary Palmer, Lon- don, brother of the bride and Jim Blackwell, Goderich. Assisting in receiving the groom's. mother wore a floor length • chiffon gown in shades of turquoise, • mauve and rose with silver accessories and white rosebud corsage. For travelling to Niagara Falls the bride donned a red wool pantsuit with black ac- cessories, white gardenia and stephanotis corsage. The young couple are residing at Inverhuron. The bride is a Registered Nurse a Kincardine District General Hospital and the groom is a Nuclear Power operator for On- tario Hydro at Douglas Point. Prior to the wedding the bride-elect was showered by miscellaneous showers at the home of Mrs. Kathy Thomas London, Mrs. Cheryl Cronyn, Blyth and with a crysta shower at the home of Mrs Carol Palmer, London, C. FRANKLIN FINNIGAN the late John and Margaret Govier. She lived in Hullett Town- ship most of her life and in 1920 she married Archibald Webster in Londesboro, He predeceased her, Mrs, Webster was a mem- ber of Londesboro United Church where she was a mem- ber of the U.C.W. She is survived by one brother William Govier of Lon- desboro, Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one son Jack' in 1954; three brothers, Richard, Louis and Charles; and one sister Mrs. Jack Rad- ford, Funeral services were held on November 13 from the Beat- tie Funeral Home in Clinton with -Rev. S. McDonald in charge. Interment was in Ball's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Burns, Robert Thompson, Harry McEwan, Jack Arm- strong, Harry Snell and Grant Sne111. JOHN 0, CARTER John O. Carter of Huron- view, and formerly of James Street in Clinton, passed away at Huronview on November 5, 1973, He was 79. Mr, Carter was born in Clin- ton on August 16, 1894, a son of the late Isaac and Catherine Carter, He was educated in Clinton and served with the 33rd Battalion during the First World War. On September 30, 1922, he married the former Blanche May Stevens in Burns Presbyterian Church in Hullett Township. Mrs, Carter survives him. The couple lived in Clinton following their marriage, and Mr. Carter worked at the Sherlock-Manning Piano Fac- tory in Clinton. He was em- ployed by the firm for 53 years. Beseides his wife, he is sur- vived by two sons, Lloyd (Dick) of Clinton and Lorne of Goderich; one daughter, Mrs. U.F. (Fern) Martell of Thor- nhill; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Norman (Margaret) Livermore and Mrs. Dick (Francis) /Freeman, both of Clinton, and Mrs. Bruce (Hazel) MacDougall of Strat- ford; and four brothers, Joe and Robert of Clinton, and Glenn and Lorne of Detroit. Funeral services were held from the Ball Funeral Home on November 7, 1973 with Rev, Dwight Strain officiating, In- terment was in Clinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack White of Brussels, Murray Miller, James Hoy, Bill Darrell and Louis Hoy all of Clinton and George Dawson of Hensall. Flowerbearers were William Martell of Thornhill and Richard Carter of Clinton, both grandsons. JOHN Al-BERT 'POWER John Albert McIver of RR 2, Dublin died in Stratford General Hospital on November 10, 1973 after a short illness, He was 80. Mr. McIver was born in Hib- bert Township where he farmed most of his life. He was married to the former Mary Rowland. She survives him, He was a veteran of the First World War and was a member of the famous Brucefield Foot- ball Team in 1923. He was also a member of the Seaforth Happy Citizens, a club where he followed his favorite game, euchre. Besides his wife, he is sur- vived by two sons, Lou and Ed Rowland of Dublin; two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Lorraine) Purcell of Kitchener and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Lane of St, Columban; 18 grand- ehildren; and one sister, Mrs, Pat (Mary) Jordan of London. Funeral services were ;held on November 13 from the' St: Columban Church with Rev. Fr. P,A. Oostveen in charge, In- terment was in St. Columban Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian" and Barry Lane, Pat Rowland, John Mcllhargey, David Mur- tha and Louis McIver. Flowerbearers were Murray Purcell and Michael Rowland. NEILANS MRS. LILY WEBSTER Mrs, Lily Webster of Huron- view and formerly of Lon- desboro died at Huronview on November 11. She was 86, She was born the former Lily Govier in Hullett Township on March 19, 1889, a daughter ,of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Daer were honoured on the occasion of their 40th wedding at the home of their daughter Mrs. Donald Dewar and family at Atwood. He was in his 84th year, Born in Ashfield Township, he was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fin- nigan of Ashfield Township. In the year 1915 he was united in marriage to E. Pearl Saunders of Ashfield, who survives along with a family of three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Muriel) Neil, of London, Mrs. William (Alma) Irwin of Oak- ville and Mrs. Lois Storey of Scarborough, He is also sur- vived by one sister Mrs. Violet Elgie of Seaforth, and four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Since moving to London, he was an active member of Em- press Avenue United Church. A largely attended funeral service was conducted by his minister, Rev. Darwell A. Welsh from the A. Millard George funeral chapel on Saturday, November 3 at II a.m. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gar- dens, London.
