Professor Bumbly dragged his bare, seven-foot leg across the yard. Just then the sun came • out. The Professor's leg started to shrink. Soon it was the right size again. The, next day was cold. But ,eyerybody was outside in bathing sums while the sun shrank them back to normal and turned them pale again. Copyright AVS Technical Services, 1972. rtr a THE, „, e4pP n , i15.111.E2. THE BASE Riddell disputes minister's letter which clearly could not be ac- commodated indefinitely on the 550• acre site of Inverhuron. Park. "While I appreciate that Mr. Riddell is a new member of the Ontario Legislature, inac- curacies such as those con- tained in his recent column lead to unnecessary misunder- standings which I am sure he is as anxious as I am to prevent." "It is rather obvious that Mr. Bernier is playing politics but I feel that I cannot let this kind of nonsense go without a reply," said Riddell this week. Riddell enclosed the following letter to the editor: "It was a pleasure to read the recent letter from the Minister of Natural Resources, in which he alleged that as the MPP for Huron, I had sup- posedly misled the public regar- ding the "loss" of Inverhuron Park. I can appreciate the heavy workload that the Minister must have, however, a man in his position really should take greater care in reading what I actually said as opposed to what he believed I said. - This is what I originally wrote in my June 14th, column. "Leo Bernier indicated that the expansion of the Bruce nuclear complex will mean the "loss" of Inverhuron Park." The Minister believes that from that statement, I as a newly elected Member have misled the public. Mr.' Ber- nier's reply is the epitome of what is .wrong with the present Queen's Park government. They only like to look at half of the truth. Perhaps, the people of Ontario could find out from the Minister the following points. Why did the Minister not ex- plain that the Ministry for the first time is now handing out pamphlets to campers warning what to do in case of a deadly leak from the station? Why did ,he neglect to men- tion that the new recreation centres in Inverhuron are nothing more than "gas shelters" in case of a leak? In a preliminary evaluation sheet regarding the expansion at Bruce Nuclear Power Development, the following reference was made \ to In- verhuron Park. • ‘,.4,7he.,,,ligavy• Water Plant. Safety. Advisory Committee has been concerned about the relatively large summer population camping in In- verhuron Provincial Park. "Although acknowledging that the risk is small, the Atomic Energy Control Board issued a directive in May, 1972, prohibiting the startup of the Bruce Heavy Water Plant in the summer of 1972 "while In- verhuron Provincial Park is in full use". In February 1973 it indicate'd that concurrent operation of the plant and the park would be acceptable in the summers of 1973 and 1974 provided that there are effec- tive protective measures for the occupants of the park, but that use of the park should be restricted to daytime use of the , Inverhuron Bay Beach and pic- nic areas after 1974, or sooner if the new park is available. "The effective protective measures, in the form of war- ning systems and shelters, have been installed in Inverhuron Provincial Park as a short-term solution. Subject to continued approval of the AECB, beach and picnic areas will be used on a daytime basis beginning in 1975." The preliminary evaluation sheet noted that "establishing a buffer zone or greenbelt around the Bruce Heavy Water Plant requiies the acquisition of In- verhuron Provincial Park and some private properties east of the site." The report continued: "Inverhuron Park, im- mediately south of the Bruce site,' is described as a Natural Environment Park with areas of natural, scenic and historic significance. Facilities include 331 tent and trailer sites, picnic and parking areas, and an ex- cellent beach, The area was a stone age settlement, an Iroquois camp, and a fishing and lumbering community of 70 years ago, "To comply with a decision of the Atomic Energy Control Board, overnight camping will be eliminated after 1974 and use of the park will be restric- ted to daytime use of the In- verhuron Bay beach and ad- jacent picnic areas. Existing shelters in the campgrounds will be removed at the end of the 1974 camping season. "In addition to the tran- smission line, right of w,ay from • the site, it is desirable for Hydro to own and control cer- tain other, vacant properties to. the east of the present site. This property is required to provide a consistent buffei zone. However, Hydro will negotiate - on a willing-seller basis as Hydro ownership is not man- datory." Jack Riddell, member of Provincial Parliament for Huron County, elected in a by- election last March to replace the retiring Charles S. MacNaughton has sufficiently upset Hon. Leo Bernier, Minister of Natural Resources to prompt Bernier to publicly attack Riddell in one of Huron County's weekly newspapers. Following the June 14 Jack's Jottings written by Riddell which appeared in most Huron County newspapers, Bernier wrote a letter to the editor of The Exeter Advocate protesting a portion of the , column. That segment to which Ber- nier objected was as follows: "At the same time that the energy plans were revealed to the members of the Legislature, Leo Bernier, Minister of Natural Resources, indicated that the expansion of the Bruce nuclear complex will mean the loss of Inverhuron Park on Lake Huron between Port Elgin and Kincardine. However, he said that the Government plans to acquire almost 1800 acres at MacGregor Point to be conver- ted into a fully operational Provincial Park by 1975." • In his letter to the Exeter editor, Bernier wrote: "I would like to correct a misleading statement con- tained in Mr. Riddell's column in your newspaper June 14th alleging the loss of Inverhuron Park to make way for the ex- pansion of the Bruce Generating Station. "In my Statement to the On- tario Ligislature, dated June 7th I pointed out that In- verhuron Park will remain open to the public for both overnight campers and day users until 1975. After 1975, day use of Inverhuron Park will be available free of charge to the public, while overnight campers will be accommodated at a new 1,800 acre park at McGregor Point. "This new park is being developed as a result of in- creased public demand for both overnight camping and day use FACTORY OUTLET NOW LOCATED ON HWY. # 4 SOUTH OF CLINTON AT VANASTRA HOLIDAY WEEK-EN SIDEWALK SALE! Now Professor Bumbly was working on a suntan formula. His assistant Oscar tried a dose'. "It really works!" yelled Oscar, as he turned a beautiful brown. Professor Bumbly's chemistry students decided to sell the Instant Suntan for- mula to get money for the new Student Center. They sold hundreds of bottles. Then Oscar's arm suddenly stretched. It was six feet long! Other people who had taken the formula found parts of their bodies stretching, too. Oscar rushed up to tell Professor Bumbly. But the Professor had taken the formula too! "Don't worry," said the Professor. "We'll fix this." But water didn't help. And neither did any of the formulas they tried. The College President called Professor Bumbly - to his office. His nose was as big as a banana. "You find a cure for this, Bumbly," he boomed, "or you're fired!" on the way back to the Tops, Skirt, Jumper regular $3.97 50 Summer Sets '1.2 Infants 9 mo. to 24 mo. 41 pair Domed Crawlers M7'1.17 14 Shorts Sets reg. $2.97 $11 .47 Bonnet, Boots and Jacket regular price $3.97 Tops, Skirts, Jumpers etc. regular to $7.97 Boys 2 Piece .Cabana size 4 only 75 Sportswear' s 1.97 Assorted 90Style Shorts reC:la$;.:;"87 90 Infants Sets s1"97 6 Scooter Skirts regular $1.57 97c Cotton Print regular $1.97 20 Infants Sun Suits $1•1 regular $2.57 7 35 Flare Pants $ 1.37 Girls 2 Piece • size 4 only Short Sleeve and Sleeveless 15 Sun Suits regular $1.97 $ 137 20 T Sh* wits regular $1.57 77 c Girls size 3 and 4 only regular $1.27 to $1.57 2 Piece Stretch nylon Reg. $1.57 11 Swim Suits ,_.,.77c 25 Scooter Skirts .77 Girls. size 3 to 6X • - MISSES JR. & LADIES' DEPT. :80 Cotton Shorts regular $1.17 7c , SALE PRICE size 9 only Girls size 3 to 6X regular $1.07 to $2.57 100 Junior Baggies r g$7 uul a r 45 Flare Pants 87c $2,97 Main Corner-Clinton size 9 only 30 Junior Buggies re= $4.67 * BLOUSES * PANT TOPS * PULLOVERS * VESTS * PANTS * SKIRTS Odds and Ends of Separate Shorts each 57c size 10 to 14X regular $2.57 25 Teen Flares '1.97 BOYS SIZE 7-18 DEPT.
