Health Tips
one of -the most common disease
states that we see today, the
Canadian Medical Association
says.
Tension usually follows anx
iety, and we might think of a
tension state as being tire result
of anxiety or apprehension over
one or more problems. Anxiety
may be of the chronic variety
due to the common stresses and
strains of everyday living, and
in certain emotionally less-
stable individuals this form of
anxiety causes chronic tension
states with many different pre
senting symphons.
These symptoms may obscure
the basic anxiety problems in
the patient. Or the anxiety may
be of the acute variety, result
ing from some unusual stress
or worry which may cause an
acute tension, state, even in
very stable persons. With the
acute situation, the symptoms
are usually more obviously of
the anxiety or tension type.
The C.M.A, -says the acute
type of anxfety state generally
is more responsive to treatment
in that the unusual situation
causing the condition is' more
likely to be of short duration.
The chronic type is more resis
tant to therapy scince it is har
der to relieve the everyday pro-
condlition. With helpful reassur
ance and counselling as well as
pyhchotherapy, which can* be
given by the general practi
tioner, and sometimes by judi
cious usd of the many tranquil
lizers available, most patients
with anxiety states, can
helped:
