But Clintop. won after two threempnute overtime periods, beating Goderich District Col­ legiate Institute 52-50 for the Huron-Perth secondary schools senior boys basketball cham­ pionship at CHSS auditorium Saturday night. Brad Dutot scored two bas­ kets add a free throw and Rolfe Cooke a basket and free throw in the second overtime of the senior game to produce the winning points'. Goderich re­ sponded on two baskets by George Clark and another by Ed Curry. Clark’s last shot of i the game with two seconds re­ maining rimmed the basket and fell off. The score at the end of regu­ lation time was 40-40. It was 44-44 at the card of the first overtime with Dutot and Cooke each sinking two free throws and Goderich’s John Pirie get­ ting a basket and two: free throws; Clinton led 23-18 at half- time. Clinton had defeated Listowel 'seniors 69 to 34 in the semi­ final game at 11 o'clock in the morning. The local team were unde­ feated in the six-game regular schedule. During the season the CHSS seniors 'had beaten Gode­ rich 62-43. To reach the finals, Goderich had to eliminate St. Marys in a game last Thursday. They were fi'ed at eight points each • after -the regular season’s' play. Then in the senior'semi-final on Saturday afternoon they put out second-place Mi toil ell. by a score of 52-38. In this' game John Pirie was high scorer with 16 points, followed by John Clark with 11, Ed Curry with 9 and Dockstader with six. Poppenk sank ten baskets and four frhe throws for 24 points in the final with Lis- Town League Championship The two bottom teams in the Town Hockey League upset the ■leaders in the final 'games of the season played Monday even­ ing. Although the Bankers lost ■ to the Hydro-12-8, they retained their one-point edge atop the standings to win the champion­ ship, 'as the Mainstreeters drop­ ped the opener 11-6 Teachers. The Clinton team had beaten Seaforth din four previous meetings this year. The second game will be played in Seaforth this Satur­ day and a third, if necessary, in Oliinton on Wednesday, March 9 at 8:00 p.m. Butch Fleet scored twice for the locals in the opener and Cam Colquhoun got the other. -----------o----------- Bantams To Play The Clinton Ponies were eliminated from the OMHA pee­ wee “B” playoffs as they lost the deciding game of a series against MtoheH played in Clin­ ton Lions Arena last Thursday evening. The final score was Mitchell 5, Clinton 2. The two teams were evenly matched during the first two games as the Ponies won the first 4-3 and Mitchell won the second game 5-4. In the final encounter each team scored once in the first, period with Bill Cantelon get-' ting Clinton’s marker, assisted by Brian Langille and, Mark Jenkins. The visitors took over the game in the second period as they scored two unanswered goals and again in the third frame as: they outscored the Ponies' 2-1 on two goals within eliight seconds; Clinton’s final goal was scored by Mark Jen­ kins. (News-Record Photo) Ellwood Epps Sporting Goods will have a display in the 19th annual presentation of the Can­ adian National Sportsmen’s Show next week, iMaroh 11-19, in Toronto. Reputed' to be North Ameri­ ca’s finest springtime exhibition, the Show is expected to attract more than 250,000 persons. El­ lwood advises attending during the week if possible, for on Saturdays the crowds make viewing more difficult. On display in the Epps booth in the Coliseum will be a dis­ play of knives, imported and local, with special odd items. A loading demonstration of both shot shells and rifle will be carried out. Demonstrations of how to re­ finish gunstocks will be made. Custom rifles, new model hand­ guns will be in the Epps dis­ play. A- new electronic crow caller will be shown. This item is of dual nature, and one can play any disc bn it, as well as in­ structional records. As a' crow caller it is expected to help farmers • whose crops suffer from crow' damage. Both Mr. and Mrs. Epps will attend the show from Clinton, and Donald Epps and one of his staff at the Orillia branch of Epps Sporting goods, also will attend. Other scorers were Clark 8, MacLennan 6 and ‘ Coghlin 4. • The score was tied 27-27 at half time, In the regular schedule, Lis- towel had edged out Clinton by a close 38-36 -score. Clinton 50 — Stratford 36 CHSS juniors easily eliminat­ ed Stratford Central in- the semi-finals,. 50 to 36, with Nick Poppenk getting half the points. Other scorers were: Jeff Shad­ dick 15, Scott Macaulay 5, Jim McConnell 3 and John Hay 2. Stratford’s top scorer’s were Poynter 12 and HaiToff 10. To gain the junior finals Lis- towel beat Goderich juniors 57- 32, with Clark, Harrison and Sanders the top scorers. During' the season Goderich had beaten Listowel 56 to 46. Listowel Coach Although Listowel won the junior final over Clinton, it was a partial victory for Clinton area. The Listowel junior coach, Ken Potter is a 1959 graduate of Clinton Collegiate. Son’ of Mi-, 'and Mrs. Elmer Potter, RR 2, Clinton, Ken is now a science teacher at Listowel District high school. Coach of the CHSS juniors was Bruce Fauldfe.
