In the *'B” group series all four teams, Clinton RCAF, Cen tralia RCAF, Goderich and St. Marys, will be in the semi-finals with the first and third and sec ond and fourth teams playing off. In the “C” group, six of the seven teams will vie .for the championship; The top team will meet the fourth, the second the fifth, and the third the sixth. . At a meeting over the week end the executive decided on a one-week extension to get in the postponed tilts, Until then the position of the teams will not 'be determined, / Mitchell has a chance to over take the league lead from the Clinton Colts. In order fo do this they have to win all four games scheduled for this week. Wed nesday night these two teams hook up in one of the postponed tilts and this will be a big factor in the final results. Exeter, after missing the .play offs last season, is right up there this year and currently holding down fourth spot. Lucan, how ever, has a chance to overtake them. The locals, when the final re sults of first and fourth place are known, will play either Clin ton or Mitchell. If Exeter lands’ in fourth spot they will play a best-of-five series with the league leaders. If it’s fifth position they wind up in it will be a best-of- three series* with” the number two team. Not until the final standing is completed will it- be known which team will be dropped. It is a race between Zurich and Hensall for the sixth spot. On the other hand the airmen knicked Harold Shaw for eleven safeties but excellent support in the field aided the local cause. Fielding gem of the piece was the double play started by Chuck Seymour. The Exeter player, who has been shifted from catchei* to short, scooped off a hot grounder that looked like a sure hit and nabbed Gilhuly »off second and Robinson completed the play to Darling to rob Hjorth of a hit. Exeter jumped into a comfort able lead in the first frame scor ing five runs on one hit. Three walks and, three errors helped the locals. In the second three more runs put them in front 8-0. This was de cided July 31 at a meeting of Department of Lands and Forest officials with the Pelee Island Council. Pheasants are so num erous this year that there are complaints of crop damage. In vestigations made on the island show that about 10,000 hen pheasants produce the ideal ■pheasant crop, which is the larg est supply of birds without dam age to crops. Dates proposed are October 23 and 24 for the first shoot, and October 27 and 28 for the second. Threatens Ontario Safety Record Ontario motorists will have 1 drivers are a menace to the safe cause for concern about the pre-1 ty of others.” liminary total of deaths last month from street and highway accidents in the province; at least 95 persons lost their lives in traffic last moth, more than in any July since 19,37. 'Ontario’s traffic death since the beginning of 1950 stands at 3*71 killed. While is still lower than it was in the same seven months of last year (31)6 died from January to July 194,9). Highways Minister Hon. George H. Doucett warns that from July to October Ontario motor traffc will likely be heav ier and more dangerous than ever before. These same four months have, in the past, had more fatal accidents on average than any other tour-month period, in the year. In an interview just before the August Civic Holiday week-end, the Minister urged holidaymak ers to stay alert on the high ways for drivers who are: "out of step with the rest of the traf fic. Whether they go too fast or too slowly, either way such "The police will do their share,” stated I’rovicial Police Commissioner Wm. H. Stringer, O.B.E., who has directed a much intensified road patrol in recent weeks, particularly directed against speeding, an offencQ which is known to contribute to more accidents than any other. Most numerous Among the un fortunate victims of July ac cidents were not drivers or pe destrians, but simply people rid ing in vehicles as passengers: 38 passenger victims compared with 20 in July of last year. There, were 13 multiple-death accidents: one killing 6 people at once, 5 killing 3 people each, and 7 taking at least two Jives. There was ho increase over last July in number of victims of pedes trains accidents, motorcycle ac cidents or two-vehicle collisions) Big increase was in railway crossing smashtips, and in ac cidents involving only ,a single vehicle which went out of con trol and left the road, or hit some fixed object.
