The Walton Wonders had a couple
of games and a couple of losses.
The first game was against the
strong hitting RBI team from
Brussels. They defeated Walton 20-3
having a 10-run inning in the
seventh.
Walton had lots of errors and cold
bats and one outstanding catch by
Colleen Smith.
The RBIs strong batters for the
game included Rachel Elliott going
five for five, Pam McLean, Liz,
going four for five and Lynn Neill
going three for three.
The second game for the Wonders
was away in Monkton against
Lavern’s Ladies. It was a good game
by both teams with lots of great
defensive plays.
The game was tied 2-2 after four
innings of play, then Monkton went
ahead by one in the fifth and added
three more runs in the last two
innings. The final score was 7-2.
The strong batters for Walton
included LeeAnn Konarski, Alicia
Dick and Meagan Bisback all going
three for three.
There are only five weeks left in
the schedule before the weekend
tournament on the weekend of Aug.
19.
Victory!
It was a time for celebration as the local U-18 girls soccer
team won gold at the recent tournament held in Blyth.

The Blyth Lightning U-12 soccerteam finished the season last weekplaying against Wingham Gift ChestOrange at Sparling’s Field.Blyth controlled the game fromthe start. Logan Forbes scored in the
first minute of play with Mackenzie
Nesbitt assisting.
Blyth went on to score eight more
times and allowed only a single goal
against.
Forbes picked up four assists.
Nesbitt scored three times and had
another assist. Dalton Carey had two
goals and one assist. Brandon
Marshall took a goal and an assist.
Matt Terpstra scored two goals and
Jacob Wiersma picked up one assist.
Playing in net for Blyth was Matt
Terpstra and Brandon Marshall.
Then it was straight into the U-12
playoffs in Clinton. Blyth played
Wingham Gift Chest Blue in their
first game. The Lightning got on the
scoreboard first with a goal from
Forbes near the half-way mark of the
first half. Wingham struck back latein the half with two quick goals.The second half did not go wellfor the Lightning as Winghamscored twice more and took the win.Blyth then faced the Bayfield
Hurricanes. Again Blyth got off to a
good start. Nesbitt scored the first
Lightning goal with Marshall
assisting. Then Marshall netted one
to put Blyth up by two. Forbes
assisted. Bayfield scored twice late
in the half to tie it up.
Bayfield got a break early in the
second half and scored on a penalty
shot. Blyth had a chance to tie the
game on a corner kick. Blyth
shooters hit the goal post twice in
the same play but couldn’t score.
Bayfield scored twice more to take
the win.
The Lightning finished off their
playoffs against Lucknow. Blyth
came out strong once again and took
the lead. Forbes scored the first
Blyth goal. Marshall scored the
second goal with Forbes assisting.Lucknow worked their way backto score twice to tie the game by thehalf. Wiersma scored early in thesecond half. Leanne Plunkett pickedup the assist, to put Blyth back in the
lead.
Marshall netted his second goal of
the night and increased Blyth’s lead.
Lucknow came back, and once
again tied the game up.
Plunkett teamed up with Nesbitt to
score one for Blyth. Forbes was in
for one more goal and Blyth had a
two-goal lead again.
Lucknow did get one back but
Blyth took the win.
Netminders for the tournament
were Matt Terpstra, Brandon
Marshall and Brennan Kolkman.
