The Citizen, 2009-11-26, Page 24It is hard to believe what great
weather we have been having. There
should be no excuse for not having
outside Christmas decorations up in
this good weather. I managed to get
our home’s outside decorations done
on Sunday. There’s one job off the
list.
Saturday was the St. James School
Christmas home tour in Seaforth.
There were five homes on the tour
plus the gym at St. James school was
decorated. Our daughter, LeeAnn
and Jason Konarski’s home was on
the tour.
They have been working on
projects most of the summer, and in
the final week it has been non-stop
getting things done by another
former Walton girl, Carla Dalton
Goodfellow of Exeter and her
business, Seasonals Garden Unique
Decor. The home was beautifully
done. It was very homey and the
comments were all positive from
those viewing it.
Judy Lee and I went on the tour in
the morning, then played hostess at
the house while LeeAnn, Kelly,
Alicia and friend Dana went on the
tour. We may be a little prejudiced
but we thought LeeAnn’s home was
the best.
The tour was over at 4 p.m. and
Carla arrived for pickup. Carla with
her mom Pat Dalton packed up
within the hour and were ready for
Carla’s husband to pick up the bigthings.A beautiful Christmas setting, enjoyed by nearly 500 folks on thetour, was gone in 60 minutes. There have been a few specialbirthdays celebrated in the lastcouple of weeks. Many friends andrelatives gathered at Beth VanDoorniks residence in Tuckersmith
Twp. to help her mom, Dorothy
McNichol of Seaforth celebrate her
birthday. They say it’s over 80, but
less than 90, somewhere in the
middle. There were 50 or so who sat
down to a birthday dinner and
enjoyed a few hours of reminiscing
over many happy years gone by.
Some special guests included
sisters-in-law Mildred of London,
Wilma of Mitchell, Carmetta of
Woodstock, Anna McNichol of
Seaforth and close friend Maxine
Marks of Seaforth.
A Walton lady celebrated her 90th
birthday among her sisters-in-law
and nieces. Helen Williamson
celebrated a little early at her house
while the good weather was still
with us. Joining Helen for the
afternoon were Mona Hutton, Olive
Clark, Evelyn Carter, Florence
Nesbitt, Ina McGrath, Kathleen
Williamson and Gloria Riley.
The birthday cake was baked and
provided by the oldest sister-in-law,
97-year-old Olive. It was a
wonderful afternoon for the ladies to
get together and we will be thinking
of Helen on Nov. 24, her birth date.
Happy birthday Helen.
We are happy to hear that Dianne
(Fraser) Blake is all right. Dianne
was heading back to Kitchener on
the weekend, when she hit a deer
halfway to Monkton. Thankfully,
she was not hurt, but her car is not so
lucky. She was able to call family
members to come to her aid and help
her with the situation. Our Abby McGavin is at it againcollecting coats for the less fortunateand the homeless. Abby startedcollecting coats, hats, mitts andscarves about five years ago after atrip to Toronto. She saw folks on thestreet in the winter without adequateclothing and asked her parents why,and what could she do.
Anyone who has winter clothing
in good shape can drop off these
articles at Duff’s United Church,
McGavin’s Farm Equipment or the
McGavin (Brian and Shelley) home.
The McGavins will be making the
trip to Toronto about the first week
of December, so houseclean those
closets now or try on those old coats
to see if they fit.
Thieves have been around the area
lately so be sure to lock up. A home
on North Line was broken into on
the weekend and articles were
stolen. Be aware of your neighbours
and their vehicles and if you notice
strange ones around, call them and
check out the situation or at least
take down the licence plate number
of the vehicle and make.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include belated wishes to
Johnny Ryan and wishes to Shirley
Ann Boven, Sarah Williamson, Carl
McCallum, Valerie Shortreed, IanWilbee, Donna McClure, LindaGingerich, Linda McDonald, Craig Gillis, Nicholas Zwep, BradMcKague, Brent McKague, and me.PAGE 24. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2009.

The Christmas shopping season is underway and folks at
St. John’s Anglican Church in Brussels helped people get
an early start with their annual bazaar on Saturday. Seven-
year-old Ryker and five-year-old Mackenzie Vanden Broek
of Walton look over some seasonal items. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Huron East rescinded its interim
control bylaw that halted a wind
energy project aimed for McKillop
at its Nov. 17 meeting.
The interim control bylaw was
heralded by local wind turbine
protest group Huron East Against
Turbines (HEAT), but as clerk-
administrator Jack McLachlan
explained it, the development,
headed up by CASA Engineering,
will fall under the new Green Energy
Act regulations, making the
municipality’s bylaw
inconsequential.
McLachlan cited letters from the
Ministry of the Environment as well
as Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell
stating that CASA will find
themselves under the province’s new
regulations, putting control over
green energy in the hands of the
province and not lower tier
municipalities.
The move, therefore, gives Huron
East bylaws no course of action on
green energy projects in the
municipality.
The municipality was facing an
Ontario Municipal Board hearing,
but after rescinding the bylaw,
CASA has agreed to drop its
appeal.
