Mr. John Bartlett Lavis of RR2, Clinton passed away at Clinton Public Hospital on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. He was in his 88th year. Mr. Lavis was the beloved husband and best friend of Gwen (Routledge) Lavis for 65 years. He was the loving father and father-in-law of Bryan and Carol Lavis of RR2, Zurich, Paul and Joy Lavis of RR3, Clinton, Gordon and Anne Lavis of RR5, Clinton, Allan Lavis of RR2, Clinton and Anne and Rick Elliott of Blyth. He will be sadly missed by his 13 grandchildren, John and Angela Lavis, Sherri and Jeff Eby, Darrell Lavis and Jean Cook, Leeanne and Scott Middleton, Kathy Lavis andDana Edwards, Bart and HeatherLavis, McKenna Lavis, Layne Lavis,Nathania Lavis, Russell Lavis, Michaela Lavis, Jeff Elliott and Heather Elliott and by his eight great-grandchildren Samantha Eby, Justin Eby, Ashley Lavis, Meghan Lavis, Jonny Lavis, Noah Middleton, Ashlyn Edwards and Autumn Lavis. Mr. Lavis was predeceased by his parents Bart and Mabel (McKinley) Lavis, one sister Ruth Baker and by one brother George Lavis. John enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942 serving with the Royal Canadian Artillery and finally with the Engineering Corps until the end of the Second World War. John was a proud member of the local Royal Canadian Legion Clinton Branch No. 140. John was very active in community affairs having served as a board member of the United Communities Credit Union for over 30 years and also as the first chair of the combined Huron County Board of Education. He was also a member of the Ontario Horseman's Association and an active member of the Clinton United Church for over 60 years. Friends were received at the Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., Clinton Chapel, 153 High St., Clinton on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Clinton United Church on Friday, Oct. 16 at1 p.m. with Rev. Leslie Searlesofficiating.Interment was in Clinton Cemetery. Flowerbearers were grand- daughters, Sherri Eby, Leeanne Middleton, Kathy Lavis, McKenna Lavis, Nathania Lavis, Michaela Lavis and Heather Elliott. Pallbearers were grandsons John, Darrell, Bart, Layne and Russell Lavis and Jeff Elliott. A memorial service was held by the Royal Canadian Legion Clinton Branch 140 at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Donations to the Clinton United Church, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. (Donations by cheque only please). JOHN RAYMOND NEILL Raymond Neill of Wingham passed away at Braemar Retirement Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. He was 80. Mr. Neill was the beloved husband of the former Elinor (Sundercock) Collar. He is survived by Elinor’s family, Audrey and Gregg MacDonald of Markham and Rev. Donald and Cathy Collar of Orleans. He was grandfather to Steven, David and Kelly MacDonald and Brad and Michelle Anne Collar and brother- in-law of Dennis and Doris Waymouth of Harcourt. Mr. Neill was predeceased by hisparents Ira and Esther (McCreery)Neill and by sisters Muriel Watsonand Margaret Stokes. Mr. Neill was a former member of session at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Rev. Bernard Skelding officiated. Interment was in Wingham Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wingham would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. The former Margaret Coulter was the beloved wife of Clifton Walsh for 62 years. She was the loving mother of David Walsh who predeceased her in 1997, Mary-Ellen Walsh of RR2, Auburn, Michael Walsh of RR4, Brussels, Marni Walsh and husband Steve Baker of Shelburne, and Andrew Walsh of Jordan. She was the proud grandma of Coulter, Jesse and Darcey Baker and Cameron Walsh. Mrs. Walsh is also survived by her dear sister Grace and husband JackPym of Kincardine and sister-in-lawZora Coulter of Wingham.She was predeceased by her parents George and Mae (Campbell) Coulter, sisters Elizabeth (Clarkson) Martin and Mae Coulter and by brothers Norman Coulter and James (Elizabeth) Coulter. A private funeral service was held at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Rev. John G. Roberts officiated. Mrs. Walsh’s final resting place was in Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave. Memorial donations to the Wingham Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
