Gone But Not Forgotten
Reminders of you are everywhere,
In everything we do,
A word, a deed, a smile, a nod,
Will always see us through.
Even though we regret that day,
For us it was too soon,
If we can think beyond our needs,
We know it was right for you.

Deb Sholdice, general manager of
the Blyth Festival was on hand at the
Aug. 4 North Huron council meeting
to give an update on the various
programs being offered in Blyth this
season.
She spoke on the Blyth Young
Company, which is group of youth
that has set up a “lair” in the Phillips
Studio, totally devoted to teen life,
with the goal of fashioning a story
called House Hold. “We’re very
pleased to continue the relationship
with youth in our area,” Sholdice
said.
She also talked about the summer
camp that was held last month in
Blyth. There were 12 children
enrolled, which Sholdice said “is a
bit less than we’ve experienced in
the past,” she said, citing the
economic conditions as a the reason.
Ticket sales aren’t as high as last
year, but, she said, the Festival is
maintaining the five-year average.
She’s noticed the majority of
theatre-goers are more local than in
the past and at-the-door sales are up
about 50 per cent.
The focus this season i on
community involvement, Sholdice
said. “The community wouldn’t be
what it is without the theatre, and
likewise, the theatre wouldn’t be
what it is without the community.
The Festival held a North Huron
evening last month, with a potluck
supper and a discounted showing of
Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad. They’ve
also paired with the WOAA and
Victim Services of Huron County to
fundraise for the organizations.
The Festival has also applied for
an Ontario Trillium Foundation
grant, which Sholdice said will be
put towards new flooring, windows,
and masonry work. The electrical
service to the building also needs to
be upgraded, and she’d like to give
the interior a facelift, with new paint
and window treatments.
Council budgetted $2,500 to the
Festival for this year to help with the
community programs.
