The Citizen, 2009-06-25, Page 23By Jo-Ann McDonaldThe Brussels Legion Branch had aquiet week but there were someinteresting events happening aboutthe Royal Canadian Legion. The RCL Tri District ABC HospitalCommittee was awarded the St.Joseph’s Partner of DistinctionAward for its involvement inprograms at the hospital. Comrade Eric Ross attended the presentationin London, as vice-chairman of thecommittee. This week is the week that 60veterans from Parkwood and
SunnyBrook Hospitals go to camp.
They attend the CNIB Camp at Lake
Joseph near Mactier.
They are there four days and spent
time fishing, boating, enjoying the
outdoors, doing crafts, the sunshine,
barbecues and the quiet and serenity
of beautiful sunsets.They have a
HoeDown and a great time out of the
hospital setting.
Comrade Eric Ross was up for a
day with Comrade John MacDonald
in their capacities as members
of the Tri District Hospital
Committee.
It was a District track and field
held on the weekend at Kincardine.
The Branch sponsored five athletes.
Tyler Smith earned a second place in
the 200m. run, third in high jump
and third in long jump. Tilynn
Ducharme placed sixth in shotput
and sixth in long jump and Wyatt
Ducharme placed seventh in the
200m. and eighth in the 100m. Lani
Smith placed fifth in the 200 and
long jump and sixth in the 100m
final. Tori Kellington placed sixth in
both the 200 and 400 m.
One parent reported it was a
wonderful experience for the kids
and they learned so much from
speaking with other athletes and
coaches.
It is her hope that the school would
encourage more of the children to
participate in the Legion track and
field program. Comrade Eric Ross
was there helping out at the
event.
The Friday night supper of roast
pork was enjoyed by a great
crowd. This week will be a variety ofthings. There will be some chickenbreast, beef and more. This will be the last supper until
fall.
The fish fry crew was off to
Mitchell Branch on Saturday. They
fed 145 folks. Helping at the fry
were Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald,
Judy Lee and Greg Wilson.
Brussels Cemetery Decoration
service is this Sunday at 2 p.m. We
hope more people will be able to join
us this year.
The elimination draw tickets areavailable, so Comrades areencouraged to drop into the Branchand get some tickets to sell. Ifeveryone does a little, it cuts down
on some members doing a lot.
There is also a list of dinners
that all require help, so sign up
and volunteer to help out at
some.
Just speak with Sandra, Jacqui or
Jo-Ann.
