The Citizen, 2009-06-25, Page 2Nordic walking is coming to
Brussels with a free demonstration
and clinic on July 2.
Ontarians are taking active living
in stride, doing what comes
naturally, like walking, to stay fit.
Now they have another option, one
that has been taking the fitness world
by storm – urban poling.
Urban poling – also called Nordic
walking, or pole walking, is a
full-body, cardiovascular exercise
that engages the arms, back, stomach
and legs.
Many fitness experts agree that
urban poling is one of the safest and
yet most effective forms of exercise
because it burns up to 46 per cent
more calories and increases
cardiovascular workout by 25 per
cent compared to walking.
Whether an olympic athlete or a
grandmother with arthritis, people
will get something from this
exercise.
The growing trend of urban poling
can be seen throughout Ontario. Its
popularity is attributed to the
incredible workout that it provides.
Town and Country Support
Services held free demonstrations
and clinics in Blyth earlier this year.
The free clinic will be in the
parking lot of the Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre on
July 2 at 9:30 a.m. The rain date will
be July 9 at 9:30 a.m.
For more information contact
Cheryl or Nadine at Town and
Country Support Services at 519-
482-9264.

Well the boys were in fine form on
Sunday. Three little sweeties were
baptized at morning worship by
minister Sandra Cable much to the
delight of the United Church
congregation. Quinlan, Hudson and
Samuel were all dressed up and
ready to show the world what niceguys they are. Proud grandparentslooked on as their parents presentedthem to the United Church for thissacrament. Each wee boy brought their owncheering section, oops family, togive their parents the neededsupport. Melodee and Teit Aggerbrought Quinlan, Kelly and
Nicholas Marshall proudly brought
us Hudson and Andy and Sarah
Overholt showed off Sam. All the
activity of this first step of faith with
these sweet, healthy fellows was a
great way to start the week.
The weather on Saturday morning
was not a happy occurrence for the
20th Fly-In at the Armstrong’sAerodome. Wind and rain are notpart of the friendly skies needed tofly about in small aircraft.Attendance was down but the storiesand exchanges were not affected. It’s always fun to hear the motorsand guess what might soon beoverhead. It’s pretty neat this eventhappens and has for so many years
with the whole Armstrong family
working hard to get ready for the
visitors from many places. You can
relax now Jim, the tiding up is now
done for the summer.
Son Phil was home from
Whitecourt, Alberta over the
weekend to be sure that Ben and
Coral got married properly onSaturday – now Mr. and Mrs.Gingrich. The weather cleared so themarriage was held in a tent at theNicholsons’. Phil thought one of thehighlights of the afternoon washaving Grandma Carol sing with theupcoming generations of Nicholsonladies – so blessings to your newlife.
The Brussels Firefighters were
busy feeding the multitudes on
Sunday morning. Once again our
community knows how to show
support for good intentions.
A thermal imaging camera is on
their wish list and of course is
expensive. So with the great crowd
out for breakfast, our safety is now
improved as the camera is now close
to coming to Brussels.
Thanks guys for caring for our
community.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
