Elections were held in Brussels in April for the new officers and the installation was held on Friday evening at the Branch. Joining Brussels for installation were the Comrades of Branch 156 Seaforth. Installation began at 8 p.m. with nearly 40 present. The meeting was opened by President Jo-Ann McDonald, who welcomed everyone. The meeting was then turned over to the two presiding officers Comrade Glenn Bridge of Br. 218 and Comrade Lyn Steffler of Br. 156 for installation. The Comrades installed the officers of both Branches as well as the officers of Seaforth Ladies Auxiliary. The new president of Branch 218 is Comrade John Lowe. Comrade John’s slate of officers include Comrades past president Jo-Ann McDonald; first vice-president, Deb Cann; second vice-president, Rick McDonald; secretary, Sandra Josling; treasurer, Nicole Noble; executive, Mabel Glanville, Andy Overholt, Eric Ross, Catrina Josling, Greg Wilson, Sergeant-At- Arms, Lisa Glanville. The executive looks forward to a great year with Comrade Lowe as president and invite interested parties to contact any executive member about joining the Royal Canadian Legion. The evening ended with a time of comradeship, with music provided by Black Town Strutters, Jim Lee, Karen Cardiff, Don and Dale Chesher. They played some great tunes from days gone by which were enjoyed by all. Comrades John Lowe and Eric Ross attended the provincial convention for the Royal Canadian Legion in Burlington on May 10, 11 and 12. They attended the meetings and represented the Branch in all voting requirements. Comrade John reports that it was a very interesting time and he enjoyed his experience. The Cadets are winding up their year and have been practising for their year-end inspection. They have appreciated the community’s support over the past year and hope everyone continues to collect returnable bottles and pop cans for them. People can still drop off donations at the Branch all summer for pickup. The Friday night supper of chicken breast was enjoyed by a good crowd. This week will be sausage and sauerkraut. This week is the silent auction on Saturday. Comrades are asked to drop off donations as soon as possible and we hope when everyone is out and about at the community yard sales, they stop by the Legion, to see what’s up for bids. Looking ahead in the month of June, the Branch has many functions that involve food so we hope Comrades are able to help out when called. Barndancing The stage was open Saturday afternoon in Blyth at the 12th annual Barn Dance Jamboree Campout weekend. It was a music-filled weekend as there was an open stage on Friday night as well as a gospel show on Sunday in addition to the Barn Dance show.
