BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, May 10 Mother’s Day
were Joan and Lavern Clark.
Ushering were Terry Richmond,
Elaine Chamney and four members
of the confirmation class: Kayla
Dale, Amy Root, Kennan
MacDonald and Lauren McNichol.
McKenzie Chalmers lit the
candles at the front of the church.
Rev. Gary Clark welcomed everyone
for Confirmation Sunday.
An azalea was placed at the frontof the church by Amy and RalphMcCrea, in memory of their mothersWinnie Vincent and Vera McCrea. The Sunday school is having apancake breakfast next Sundaymorning May 17 from 9 a.m. to10:30 a.m. The call to worship was the
singing of the hymn, Jesus Loves
Me. The first verse was sung
by Sadie Chalmers, the second
by the choir and the third by
everyone.
The children were asked to come
to the front. Rev. Clark explained to
them what was going to happen
when the young people sitting in the
front pew joined the church. Thechildren stayed upstairs for theconfirmation. Those professing their faith wereSadie Chalmers, Kayla Dale,Jonathan Hakkers, Colton Kerr,Kesley Kerr, Kelly MacDonald,Kennan MacDonald, LaurenMcNichol, Amy Root and GrantSparling.
During the next hymn, I Was
There to Hear Your Borning Cry, the
children went downstairs for their
worship.
The gospel reading, John 21: 1-14
was read by Kelly MacDonald.
The choir sang an anthem, Teach
Me Your Ways.
Jon Hakkers and Kelsey Kerr
performed a skit as to what was theirjob in the church.Rev. Clark’s message for theadults was Figuring It Out. Theyouth that are confirmed often wonder what are their roles inthe church, he said. Like Peter, they have a decision to make. Peter went back to fishing, something he knew about. This is
what the confirmation class can do,
said Rev. Clark, something they
know about.
Parents often ask if there is a
manual for parenting. People
who have been raised in the
church already know what
to do, said Rev. Clark.
Sometimes people must use the gifts
they are given by God in a different
way.
The hymn, O Jesus I Have
Promised was sung.
