Huron East council decided to
discontinue its farmland tax deferral
this year in light of the farm
economy stabilizing.
A recommendation from treasurer
and finance manager Brad Knight
was approved by council at its Jan. 6
meeting.
Council had approved the deferral
for the past four years, despite
discussion last year about
discontinuing it due to the
stabilization of the farm economy.
The deferral lost Huron East an
estimated $30,000 last year and
discontinuing will help the
municipality to gain some
investment income.

No more farm tax deferral
