BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Jan. 12 were Joan Clark
and Myrtle Badley. Ushering were
Rob Mason, Terry Richmond,
Myrtle Badley and Lavern Clark.
Nancy Park was organist. Rev. Gary
Clark reminded everyone that the
fundraiser for Bikes for Humanity is
Jan. 18 with a snow date for
Jan. 25.
The prayer of approach was
followed by the first hymn This is
The Day That The Lord Has Made.
The scripture lesson was Matthew
18: 1-6, 10-14.
The children came to the front for
their story time. Rev. Clark had them
gather around the nativity scene at
the front of the church. He asked
them to take a good look and then
asked them to turn around
while he took one of the items
away.
This is the message that God
gives, he said, that if people see that
someone is missing they should see
if they can find out why they are
missing and do something to help
them.
The children went to the Sunday
school for their time of worship. The
second scripture lesson was Acts 9:
18-31.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was, The Changing Life of Paul.
He told how Paul started out as
Saul with a life of condemning
people and throwing them into jail.
Saul had a life-changing occurrence
on the way to Damascus.
The hymn Amazing Grace was
sung.
The offering was received
followed by the choir anthem,
Behold I Stand at the Door.
With the troubling economy,
getting your finances in order has
probably never been more important.
And a former Blyth man has come
back to town to help you do just that.
Brian Machan, with associate
William Chan, both certified
financial planners, has opened afinancial planning services office at406 Queen St., next door to TheCitizen. Machan has been in the financial services industry since
2000, working in banks. The
decision to go out on his own came
about, he said, because, “I was
limited with what I could do at the
banks. You can’t discuss
insurance or tax planning
needs, which is a key
component of any sound financial
plan.”
Also, said Machan, he now has
access to almost all financial
products through 40 investment
companies and 25 insurance
companies. “So I have the ability to
get the best product at the best
price.”
Machan and Chan, who has been
in the industry for 15 years, will be
offering full comprehensive plans
in additional to other financial
products and services,
“something everyone needs,” said
Machan.
The two, who also work out of
another office in Oakville will be
splitting their time between the two
places. “We are looking at different
options for when the Blyth office
will be open. Right now we plan on
four days a week from 9 a.m. until 9
p.m, with reduced hours on
Friday.”Machan said they also plan to do aseries of public information sessionson different topics. While he agrees it’s a challengingeconomic situation now, he feels
there has never been a better time to
get your financial house in order.
“There has been a lot of noise by the
media, which has made some
individuals make irrantional
decisions.”
Machan said he and Chan do free
one-on-one consultations and
reminds that now is not the time to
panic. “It’s time to make rational
decisions based on your own unique
and personal situation.”
