Last week, the residents were
entertained on Thursday, Oc-
tober 5, Family Night, with a
variety program arranged by
Mrs. Marie Flynn of Clinton,
Jim Murray's orchestra played
several numbers with Marie
Flynn, piano, Jim Murray,
violin, Gary Black, accordian,
and Harold Black, guitar. There
were step dance numbers by
Debbie and Cheryl Flynn, vocal
solos by Norman Dale and a
piano medley by Sandra Dale.
Vol•Inteers, Mr. and Mrs, Har-
vey Howard and Mrs. Mae Gib-
son were on hand to assist with
wheelchairs.
The South Huron Christian
Women held their regular song
service in the chapel on Sunday
evening. Mrs. Anderson of
Exeter was in charge of
devotions and Mrs. Luther of
Hensall led the hymn sing.
Everyone enjoyed the organ
music played by Mr. Anderson
who is a brother of Rev. Ander-
son of Exeter and visiting here
from Ireland.
Mrs. Orville Storey of
Sea forth arranged and in-
troduced the program for
Family Night on October 12.
Two groups of step dancers took
part in the program. The Step-
ping Stones, include Marlene
Glanville, Vicki Harris, Beth
McNichol, Diane Oldfield, Con-
nie Beauerman. Members of the
Staffs Steppers were Karen and
Betty Anne Miller, Janice
Vivian, Nancy Scott, and Gill
Harburn. Sherri Storey danced
two Scottish numbers and
Marlene Glanville played the
guitar and sang several solo
numbers. Nelson Howe of
Cromarty and Marie Flynn of
Clinton played the accom-
paniment for the dancers. Jack
Carter thanked the entertainers

couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary

Trudeau and a plaque from the
Province of Ontario were
highlights. of the 60th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and .Mra
R.Y, MaeLaren of Hensall,
Mr. MacLaren and the former
Elizabeth McEwan of Stanley
were married at the home of the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs,
Malcolm McEwan, September
5, 1912 by Dr. Stewart of the
Clinton Presbyterian Church,
Mrs, Mabel. Rennie, now of
Seaforth, played and sang
during the ceremony,
Following their marriage the
couple farmed on the London
Road north of Henson until
their retirement to Hensall 22
years ago.
The anniversary occasion was
celebrated quietly at the home
of their daughter, Dr. A.M.
Evans of the University of
Guelph in Guelph.
FIGURE SKATING
Canadian Figure Skating
Association held "Amateur
Coaches Clinic" at the London
Skating Club last Sunday, un-
der the direction of Mr. John
Caughell and Mrs, Marjorie
Black.
Over 60 attended from
surrounding clubs — Aylmer,
Belmont, Delhi, Hensall, Lon-
don, Simcoe, St. Thomas, West
Lorne and Zurich. Eight
received Senior Coaches cer-
tificates while fifty went to
Junior Coaches.
Miss Troyann Bell of the Lon-
don Club received her 4th cer-
tificate in the Senior division,
while Ida-Ann Blackwell, Mary
Blackwell, Deb Denomme and
Susan Dignan from Zurich,
Aileen Klungel and Julie Mock
froth Hensall received their
Junior certificates.
These girls are now qualified
to coach groups in their home
Club under the supervision of
the Professional of the club.
LEGION LADIES MEETING
The .0ctober meeting of the
Ladies' Legion MidNary was
held in the dining room of the
Hensall Hotel Tuesday evening,
starting with a dinner to
celebrate the Auxiliary's 23rd
birthday. President Mrs.
Mildred Chalmers presented the
past president Mrs. E rnie Davis
with a bar and gift. Members
decided to help with the Annual
Blind Canvass held in the
village in October. A donation
of $10, was made to the C.N.I.B,
An invitation was accepted to
Blyth to attend their 25th birth-
day. An interesting report was
given by Mrs, Iva Reid and Mrs,
Irene Davis on a Convention
which they attended in Windsor,
Sports' Officer, Mrs, Iva Reid,
gave a report on a sports
meeting she had attended. The
mystery prize was won by Mrs.
Leona Parke, guessing prize by
Mrs. Mary Taylor, and atten-
dance prize by Mrs. Mary
Bisback.
W.M.S. CARMEL
PRESBYTERIAN
The W.M.S. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Mon-
day evening for their Thank-
Offering meeting, with Vice-
President Mrs. John Soldan in
the chair. The devotional on
Thanksgiving was given by Mrs.
Agnes Madge and Mrs. Glenn
Bell. The roll call answered by
14 members was a verse of
Thanksgiving.
An invitation was accepted to
Cromarty to attend their
Thank-Offering meeting Thur-
sday afternoon of last week, and
15 ladies attended. The ladies
were invited to attend a Thank-
Offering meeting at First
Presbyterian Church in Seaforth
October 11. The Huron
Presbyterial will be held
sometime in October with the
date to be announced later.
The Ladies' Aid meeting
followed. Plans were made to
hold a "County Fair" with
home baking, produce etc. to be
held November 4 at 3 p.m.
UNIT 4 CHURCH MEETING
Unit 4 of Hensall U.C.W. met
on October 5 with the leader
Mrs, James McAllister in
charge. Mrs. McAllister opened
the meeting with "Make a joyful
noise untq the Lord", followed
by prayer. Miss Amy Laramie
gave the devotional with the
theme being "Gratitude" said
that ingratitude is a sin against
God, against Society and
against ourselves, She con-
cluded with prayer to make
every day a day of
Thanksgiving.. Mrs. Pearl Shad-
dick read portions of scripture.
Hymns were sung with Miss
Greta Lammie accompanying. A
piano solo very much enjoyed by
everyone was contributed by
Miss Greta Lammie.
Mrs. Harry Caldwell very
capably gave the study on
Africa, The offering was taken
by Mrs. E. Rowe, Mrs. L. Purdy
and was dedicated by Mrs,
McAllister. Letters of thanks
were read from Mrs. Grace
Peck, Mrs, Simmons and Miss
Ellis, The meeting closed with
the singing of hymn 586 and
prayer by Mrs, McAllister.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Pearl
Shaddick and her committee.
PERSONALS
A miscellaneous shower was
held in the Legion Hall Thur-
sday evening in honor of Mrs.
Dorothy Mason, (nee Skea).
Quite a large number of' friends
and neighbours attended. Con-
tests were enjoyed under the
direction of Mrs. Donna Allen.
The presentation address to
Dorothy was read by Mrs. Allen.
The bride was assisted by Sherri
Travers to open the gifts. Donna
Jean Allen and Cindy Bisback
presented the gifts and Lynn
Skea made a ribbon hat.
Dorothy fittingly replied. The
shower was arranged by Mrs.
Mary Bisback and Mrs. Donna
Allen.
A large crowd attended Hen-
sall United Church Sunday
morning for the Thanksgiving
Service. Rev. Don Beck chose as
his sermon topic "Why we all
need Thanksgiving". The guest
soloist was Dr. Ivan Smillie,
who sang "King David's
Lament" and "How Great Thou
