Bubble bursts
Colts' streak ends at 18
After two games, the Clinton-
Seaforth series is tied. Seaforth
took the opener Thursday in the
home park by a score of 13-10
while Clinton won at home
Sunday 21-5.
On Thursday, Phillips and
Bartliff shared the pitching. In
three innings, Phillips gave up
four runs on five hits. Relieving
in the fourth Bartliff gave up
three hits but nine runs scored'
in a disastrous fifth inning.
Clinton did everything wrong
and Seaforth took full
advantage. In the game, Clinton
had 10 runs on 11 hits while
Seaforth had 13 runs on 8 hits.
At the plate, Clinton was led by
Irwin Butler, Riehl and
Priestap with 2 hits each. In
runs scored, Steve Cook led with
three while Greg Butler had

two.
The second game was a rather
damp 21-5 victory at home for
Clinton. Played in the Sunday
drizzle, the contest saw Dave
Bartliff give up only six hits and
five runs to Seaforth.
Unfortunately for Seaforth,
some of their key regulars were
missing and this was reflected in
the score as they are a much
better team than the score
indicates.
Scoring three runs each in the
game were Cook, Irwin, Butler,
Garrow and Bartliff. Leading
hitters for Clinton were Butler
and Garrow with three each.
Our thanks to the fans who
loyally sat through the seven
innings of drizzle. Their
presence was really appreciated.
The Clinton Colts travelled to
Corunna last weekend to play in
an invitational intermediate
tournament. They did very well
for themselves by defeating
Wilkesport 5-4, Sarnia 4,3, and
losing to Corunna 12,1 in the
championship game,
In the first game just as it was
last year in the O.B.A, semi-
final playoffs, the Colts took on
a determined Wilkesport team.
Again, it was the Colts who
emerged victorious, They did it
the hard way, coming from
behind a 4-0 deficit to shade
Wilkesport 5-4. The hero of the
game had to be Larry Pickett
who came in to pitch for Brad
Dutot in relief in the second
inning with the Colts trailing 4.
0, Larry held Wilkesport to five
hits in eight innings of relief
pitching. To top off everything,
Larry slammed two 350 foot
homers in leading the hitting
attack, Cam Colquhoun, Don
Bartliff and Brad Dutot also
starred at the bat for Clinton.
Cam had two doubles and a
single, Brad collected a double

Next race is to be held August
12,
and a smgie, and Don had a
double and a single,
Wilkesport built up a 4-0 lead
after two innings, mainly due to
the wildness of starting pitcher
Brad Dutot who issued five
walks in the first two innings
and along with two Wilkesport
hits to give them their runs.
Larry came on for Brad at this
point and slammed the door on
Wilkesport preventing any
further scoring.
The Colts got on the
scoreboard in the fifth when
they came up with two runs to
narrow the score to 4-2. Doubles
by Don Bartliff and Cam
Colquhoun, along with a single
by Brad Dutot produced the two
runs. Larry Pickett hit his first
homer of the game in the sixth
to make the score 4-3.
Clinton tied the game in the
seventh with consecutive
doubles by Cam Colquhoun and
Brad Dutot, Then in the eighth,
Larry Pickett came through
with his second homer of the
game to win it for the Colts,
On Sunday afternoon, the
Colts won their second straight
game at the Corunna
tournament by beating Sarnia,
an "A" Intermediate ball team,
by the score of 4-3. Brad Dutot -
pitched a superb game against
Sarnia going the distance
striking out four batters and
allowing only four base hits.
Clinton took a 1-0 lead in the
first inning whenwith two out,
Larry Pickett .tigled, stole
second and scored on Don
Bartliff's single. The Colts
added another run in the third
to make it 2-\(), Stu Mustard hit
a double and Larry Pickett hit a
single, scoring Mustard.
In the sixth inning the Colts
scored two more runs to make
the score 4-0, Laurie Colquhoun,
Doc Miller, Brad Dutot and
Cam Colquhoun hit successive
singles to produce the two runs.
Sarnia narrowed the gap to 4-
2 with two unearned runs on
three Clinton errors in the
seventh inning. Their final run
came in the ninth, a homer with
nobody on to make the final
score 4-3.
Larry Pickett and Don
Bartliff led the Colts with two
hits apiece in this game. Other
hits were picked up by Stu
Mustard, Doc Miller, Brad
Dutot, Laurie and Cam
Colquhoun.
On Monday, the Colts met
Corunna Giants in their third
game for the championship. The
Giants, winners of three straight
O.B.A. Int. "B" Championships
completely outplayed and
outclassed the Colts by
trouncing them by a 12-1 score,
Clinton managed only three hits
off Corunna pitching, The hits
were gathered by Stu Mustard,
Danny and Cam Colquhoun.
The loss brought to an end
Clinton's 18 game winning
streak. With the loss out of their
system, they can now settle
