In an effort to retard lakeshore erosion the north crew of the Ausable Bayfield SWEEP program is
assisting Brigadier M. Smith in placing gabion baskets in Lake Huron. Approximately 40 feet of bank
was lost in the area during the last year ancinow several homes are threatened if the erosion problem
continues. The purpose of the gabions is to slow the current and wind action, allowing deposition of
sand to occur around the gabions. In a period of one week, 25 feet of sand beach has been created. This
group of students also spent some time cleaning the Bayfield beach and painting sign posts in town. It is
hopedthat other citizens of Bayfield will attempt similar projects to increase the effectiveness of
these efforts. (News-Record photo)
"Act Fast" host Bill Brady tries one of his punny jokes on Mrs. Edgar Hall, left, and Mrs. Ruby

towards the cost of refurnishing the church kitchen which was destroyed in a fire at the
church two years ago. The program will be shown this Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
