Middleton
The congregation of St. James
Anglican Church, Middleton is
celebrating its 100th anniversary
this year and on Sunday April 30 at
11;15 aim. a 100-year-old bell,
originally the property of Mr,
William Wise (1819-1901) and
his wife Mary Ann Hartup,
(1802-1907), will be dedicated by
the former rector, the Rev,
E.J.B. Harrison who now resides
in Sarnia. A belfry constructed by
Ray Wise family, will also be
dedicated at the service.
It is indeed fitting that this
Sunday should highlight the
efforts of the Wise family through
their long and devoted association
with St. James Church, of which
they were co-founders,
It was in 1849 that Mr. and Mrs,
William Wise, accompanied by
two children and Mr. Wise Sr.,
left Stroud, Kent, England,
embarked on a sailing ship and
finally came to this area. Mr.
Wise was honoured by a legal
citation worded "Magistrate to
her Royal Majesty Queen
Victoria", To the fifth and sixth
generations, the descendants of
this William Wise live on his
original farm, "Balsam Grove",
a century farm that is now owned
by Edward and Ray Wise, R.R. 3,
Clinton, great, great grandsons.
The special service will have
the Rector, Rev, George
Youmatoff in charge.

BY FRED McCLYMONT

June, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Webster and James Earl,
son of Mr. and Mrs, Earl Tipping
of Sarnia were baptized. Rev.

family of Sarnia spent the
weekend at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Dowson.
Mr. and Mrs. George Beatty
