8—Clinton News-Record, Thursdey, April 6,1972
This powerful looking team kook on the Clinton Peewees last week and gave them a tough time, The
team was comprised of parents of the team members who threatened to spank the youngsters every
time they scored a goal, The kids didn't have to tell the parents to act their age; they looked it every
time they tried to skate.
Clinton Bantams won 24 of 40 genies,
tied 2 in 19714'2 _season
crown
strong for a short time after
Peter Thompson scored on an
unassisted goal, but the boys were
short on power and lost in a final
score of 6-4.
The whole team turned out on
March 28 for a final game—
against their parents, and then
went upstairs for supper,
presentation of crests, etc.
It's hard to understand how
mothers can scream all year at
their boys and then not have
enough wind to skate up and down
the rink—maybe that's why they
stand there when they get near the
net. An off side must be something
you say to your neighbour, and a
face-off gives you a chance to lean
on your hockey stick, a la Ken
Dryden.
One of the real sneaky mother-
tricks is to say something to your
son and when he can't hear you,
you catch hold of him and keep on
trying to make him understand.
While four sons are tied up this
way, Wheee—score. Cheers for
the ice skating mothers Divok—
Wise—Thompson—Jones—
McMahon and Carter.
When the fathers went on for
.heir shift it was.a.real treat to
*see how they could stand up, They
could score almost any time that
they could get the puck in front of
an empty net. Meanwhile Grandpa
Carter spent his time between the
penalty box, coaching in the boys'
box, in the players' box (trying to
help that mother with the charley
horse) and he even played some
hockey.
All in all, it was the best turn-
out of parents ever, and a
wonderful way to wind up a year of
hockey.
From coach Carter and
manager Thompson, a sincere
thank you to all those who helped
with the Pee Wee hockey team,
and especially to Minor Hockey
Association, the Arena Staff, the
referees, the press and the
parents.
A rink of Bob Wilson, Bill Roberton, Don Morton and Doug Rowcliffe
attended a spiel in Exeter on Saturday, March 18 coming home with
fourth prize. On the 23rd a rink of Ina Scoins, Marion Wilson, Donna
Hannon and Evelyn Ahrens took in a spiel at St, Marys winning one and
losing one to miss the prize by one point.
Also on the 23rd a rink of Flo Smith, Margie Wright, Ruth
Beuttenmiller and Ann Laverty took in a spiel at Monkton, winning one
and losing one to finish out of the money.
Last Saturdaya rink of L. Rowat, Leone Rowat, Bob Davey and Betty

home with third prize. The other rink, Kay Sharp, Gwen Patterson,
Joyce Doig and Marlene Roberton came home out of the money.
Saturday was truly a busy day, A rink of Bill Campbell Jr., Gerald
Smith, Ross Veitch and Paul Storey played in the Jr, Farmers All
Ontario Final in Guelph. They won their first two, losing their last
game in a heart breaker 3-4 losing out on the championship by one
point. Tough luck boys.
Our own club also had a local spiel on Saturday, March 25, with a full
draw. The winning rink was Clare Campbell, Marlene Forbes, Jim
Cunningham and Mary McClure with consolation going to Art Wright's
rink of Millie Lobb, Everett Storey and Helen Crocker. A roast beef
supper was prepared more or less by the men with the pastry being
under the care of the ladies. Everyone pitched in and helped with the
dishes. A most sincere thanks to all of you who helped.
With dishes disposed of dancing started to the music of our own and
Art's tapes. For those not wishing to dance, cards were enjoyed till Bill
Campbell sat down at the piano and Stu McCall broke open the fiddle.
Unfortunately not one of us could call off a square dance but I must say
caller or not everyone danced to the old time music ending up with a
sing along 'till?
Our last draw ended on Friday night with the top rinks being:
Thursday 7 p.m., Fred Gibson, Marg Papple, Phil Hoggarth, Ann
Gibson. 9 p.m. Bob Wilson, Sharon Wilson, Don Tremeer, Wendy
Tremeer.

at the last exec. meeting to hold the pot luck supper on April 8 to wind up
our 71—'72 season. All trophy and prizes will be presented on this
night,
Two games of the playoffs were played on Monday night with Beecher
coming up against Doug in the men's draw. Doug came up with the win in
an extra end game which was most interesting to. watch.
The winners of the Ladies Tuesday afternoon draw were: first, Ina
Joins, Marion Wilson, Donna Hannon and Isabel Smith; second, Leone
Rowat, Evelyn Ahrens, Alice Reid and Ann Laverty; third, Ruth
Beuttenmiller, Mary Dinok, Isabel Mitchell and Grace Titford; fourth,
