Seventeen tenders were considered for the
construction of three drains by Tuckersmith
Township Council when it met Tuesday night.
Roth Drainage Limited of Qads.hill was
awarded the tender over four other firms for
construction of the Cooper drainage works at a
cost of $5,469, drain to be finished by end of
July.
The tender, one of five, for construction of
the Swinkel drainage works during the month
of July, was let to Keith Brickman of
Sebringville for $3,695. Rostill Tile Drainage
of Clinton was awarded the tender for work on
the Wallace drain which is to be completed by
the end of May. The tender, lowest of seven, is
for $1,630.
Budget
was too valuable in terms of road safety in the
county, to delete from the budget.
Original indications had also been that night
school courses would be cut from the budget
but it was later learned that deleting this item
would not constitute a saving because of the
grant structure governing night school.
It is interesting to note that personnel in the
head office at Clinton led the way in budget
savings, The original budget for head office
spending had beerr$17,525 and after the cut
backs, remained at $9,425—almost 50
percent!
In all, $129,712 was sliced from the
secondary school budget and $219,500 was
stricken from the elementary school budget.
Even with the cut backs in spend, ing, the levy
to the municipalities will likely remain the
same. The board gave its approval Monday
evening for the institution of a $200,00 reserve
for working fund.
Tile fund is considered important to Huron
The Huron County Municipal officers will
meet on May 16, with the Township of
Tuckersmith hosting the meeting.
Ross Scott Limited, Brucefield was
awarded the tender to supply diesel fuel oil to
the 'township at 19.4 cents per gallon plus
provincial road tax. This is subject to the
approval of the Department of Transportation
and Communications, The Scott tender was the
lowest of three.
The township shed in Egmondvllle is to
receive a new coat of paint under the
government sponsored winter works
program.
Clerk James McIntosh reported the
township must raise $74,427 for Huron County
purposes, of which $40,479 is for general
purposes and $33,948 is for roads. This calls
County's educational system, because
indications are that even more drastic
reductions in the ceiling for the 1973 budgets
will be imposed,
There is no doubt that members of the Huron
County Board of Education are concerned. In
fact, a resolution was passed Monday evening
that' a meeting between a delegation from
Huron County's board and the Ontario
Minister of Education be set up.
The purpose of the meeting will be to outline
to the Minister that while Huron County Board
of Education has complied with the
government's halt on spiralling educational
costs for 1972, it cannot live within similar
restrictions for another year without
jeopardizing the total educational system in
Huron.
Hon. C.S. MacNaughton and Murray Gaunt,
MP for Huron-Bruce will be invited to attend
the meeting and will be urged to be present if at
all possible.
for a taX rate of 22 mills, an increase of 1.46
mills over the last rate.
Reeve Elgin Thompson and Deputy reeve
Alex McGregor indicated they would be
attending the meeting of the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario in Ottawa on June 18
to 21,
Clerk Mcintosh presented a report from the
Huron-Perth Assessment office which
indicated the population of Tuckersmith is
2,799 as of June 1971 and the population of
Egmondville is 478.
Passed for payment were the following
accounts for a total of $7,805.51; roads,
$5,186.64; drainage, $1,734,40; general
government, $756,50; miscellaneous, $23.00;
Egmondville water and hydro, $104.57,
The subdivision agreement between
Radoma Enterprises and the township is under
study pending further development,
Robert B. Allen

Lost generation
Lost Generation, the latest
release from World Wide
Pictures, will be shown on
Saturday, April 8 at the Seaforth
District High School, Seaforth at
3:00 p,m.'
Filmed in Eastmancolor, Lost
Generation utilizes multiple
screen images and a probing
documentary style to investigate
attitudes on dissent, violence, the
mood of the United States and the
answers that can be found by this
generation as they face the
decisions of life. The opinions of
both young and old, urban and
rural, rich and poor, are brought
to the screen as the camera
focuses on people of various
backgrounds throughout that
nation. Location shots were
filmed in Alaska, the Southern
states, on the farms and in the
small towns of mid-America, and
in the dying Haight-Ashbury
hippie district of San Francisco.
The feature-length film, which
includes special appearances by
Billy Graham, Art Linkletter and
Jack Webb, was described by one
reviewer as a "moving film that
calls on us to make a decision
about how much we want to get
involved• in the troubles of our
times. It is a relevant story that
demands' our immediate
attention.
Lost Generation will be shown
once at 8 p.m. with no admission
charge. The public is cordially
invited. It is sponsored by South
Huron Youth for Christ.
