Their grandchildren then presented them with many beautiful gifts, to which Harold and Margaret, in their usual jovial manner, suitably replied. A poster, complete with drawings and pictures, entitled "Help Bring Back The Bluebirds," was created by Bosun Valerie Merner and Bosun's mate Faith Renner. This was to do with their nature study section. Another poster called simply "The 0.P. P. " with safety rules in pictures with "Trevor" the O.P.P. safety bug, clone by Sharon Bunn, Bonnie Makins, Kathy Martens and Joyce Mcllwain. Still another impressive poster, "St, John's Ambulance- First-Aid," complete with charts and sketches of the Anatomy. Shirley Brandon, Louise McVean,, CatItylVferner and Dianne Schilbe 4 created this poster from lessons from their "First-Aid" course taken last fall. Norma Garrett, Dawn McLeod and Darlene Warner were most original in their subject choice. Their display entitled "Down By The Bay" showed numerous coloured snaps of boating scenes and a table laden with rocks and driftwood all cleaned and polished and gathered from the beach. Mik`d Warner and Wesley Gozzard used a large sheet of plywood fastened to tb,e wall on which were tied 29 knots with half- inch rope, everything from a thief knot to the elaborate Jury knot. Two drawings done by Bosun's mate Mike Gozzard showed the Sea Scouts and Rangers boats. The "R" Class racing sloop which was donated to them by H, E, Hart of London, is 20 feet in length, with a six foot beam and a three foot draft, This boat was built in Port Stanley during the depression and. the Scouts were presented with the original registration when they were given the boat. They are hoping to restore it to its original condition, which will cost approximately $400,00 requiring a new suite of sails, life jackets and floating cushions for safety precautioes. Bayfield Boat Yard is installing full floatation, free of charge. The other boat "The Agawa" is a 28 man lifeboat off the S.S. Lionel B. Parsons (formerly the "Agawa") which is on loan to the Scouts from Goderich Elevator Company until such a time as the Parsons sails again. The Sea Scouts hope to equip it with a mast and sails (which they already have). Coloured pictures of the Sea Scouts and Rangers taken at their Investiture (1970); on the Waterfront (1971); Summer camp and Winter camp scenes (1971) were also displayed. The first Sea Scouts meeting was held in 19'70 with nine boys present. To date there are 26 boys registered and 20 girls (Rangers). They are badly in need of any equipment for scouting' and if there is anything lying around in anyone's attic from previous scouting groups they would appreciate you digging it out and giving them a call.
