London was the largest contributor, reporting $19,833.53 a drop of $500 from 1970. The largest increase came from St. Thomas, contributing $4,125.30 as compared to $2,931.28 in 1970. The second largest increase came from Ingersoll where a successful Walkathon was held in October making a total of $2,201 as compared to $1,594 the year previous. The demand for Scriptures exceeds the available supply, putting increasing strains on the resources of this Society dedicated to providing the Word of God to every man in his own language at a price he can afford. Contributions in Clinton lagged behind last year's level. Last year $281.00 was raised compared to $196.78 in 1971. At Brucefield, it was much the same story with contributions down to $110.50,from $119,15. Burns at Londesboro was down to $25 from $26.70 and Londesboro was down to $55 from $76. Elsewhere in the area, however, things were much brighter as in Auburn where collections were up to $463.07 from $388,55 and Hensall which increased contributions to $344.65 from $299.70, Contributions in Hayfield were up slightly to $267.25 from $266. Kippen was virtually the same as last year with $93.45 compared to $93,90, The Clinton chapter, Zeta Omega, of BetaSigma ilti, held a meeting on Feb. 8, 1972 at the home of 'Sharon Carter. The Opening Ritual was repeated, followed ny the roll call, minutes communications and treasurers' report. The Ways and Means chairman discussed final details 'for the -Bake Sale" on Saturday, Feb. 19. The sale will be held at the old location of Keith's Family Clothing Store, and will begin at 2 p.m. The girls would like to extend a welcome to anyone interested in dropping in. Service chairman read a letter from C,A.R.S. in which was enclosed a copy of their monthly publication, containing a write-up of the Sorority's efforts in the &guy you probably never heard of said it best. Rev. William H. Bentley commented, "The Church is the vehicle which carries the Word, just as the egg shell carries the egg. There is no nourishment in the egg shell, but it's not possible to carry the egg without one". The great longing of every human heart is to be free from those restraints imposed • upon him by the institutions which' support him. Sociologists have long insisted that the two groups of any culture which are freest are the very poor and the very wealthy, because they are least limited to what others think. For the majority of humans, however, there will always be the confinement of public opinion, family responsibility, and personal ambition, Nor are these things bad, They provide most of the stability, creativity and progress by which the human race has moved from cannibalism to nuclear incineration, and from incantations to brain surgery! The problem confronting people is to be able to appreciate the need for some kind of structure without confusing that structure with the fulfillment which it carries. There is a great difference between the granite counters of a bank and the fragile green paper bills in its vault. One On Friday, March 3, millions of Christians in 165 countries will be linked together in a chain of compassionate concern that circles the globe, Under the auspices of the International Committee for the World Day of Prayer women from a number of European countries, on both sides of the iron curtain, have prepared a service on the theme: "All Joy Be Yours". In Canada the World Day of Prayer is sponsored by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada. They provide hi-lingual, Braille, English, French, Chinese and Japanese services free of charge. Church women from coast to coast organise anti promote the observance in their own community, translating the Wesley-Willis United Church was the setting for the pretty candlelight wedding of Betty Livermore and Bill Stearman, Saturday, Feb 5, 1973. More than 40 white tapers lit up the chancel. Dr. A.J. Mowatt officiated and Mr, Lorne Dotteror played the couple's favourite selections on the organ, "Jests, Joy of Mars Desiring", "Praise My Soul the King of Heaven", and the theme from' "Romeo and Juliet", Betty is the daughter of Percy and Jean Livermore and Bill is the son of Arnold and Margaret Stearman, Grimsby. Betty's bridesmaid was Mrs. Jinn Melick (nee Diane Carter) of Goderich and Hill's groomsman was Dennis Trendie of Guelph, The bride's hooded gown was of white orimpolene with daisy braid triMming the sleeves. Diane's gown was soft pink identical to the bride's. They both carried a campaign- last fall. She also discussed final plans for the skating carnival on Saturday night past. Social committee reported on the progress of the -dance plans and the chairman of the decorating committee reported on their first meeting. Publicity completed all final arrangements for the float in the Winter Carnival Parade. Marjory Dobson presented the Cultural Programme titled "Express Yourself". She had each girl prepare and read a short talk on the cultural programme that had most impressed them in this year's series. Lunch and social time followed the Closing Ritual. is dirt highly pressured and the other is labor carefully conserved. Whether it be the church or the government, humanity's destiny at the close of 1972 will be determined by how carefully the people have protected the shell in which the egg is carried, and by how carefully the shell has protected the egg it carries. If the shell is destroyed, even the best egg is worthless, and if the egg (whether freedom or Faith) goes bad, the shell becomes a threat instead of a promise. Facing elections, social changes, economic challenges and vast third-world upheavals, the human race looks across the decade of the '70's at an utterly unbelievable world. No one now living can accurately predict what will rise from the sowing of this decade. It will be composed of fantastic opportunities for accomplishment and massive threats of destruction, pollution and population. Personal restraint, bureaucratic flexibility and economic compassion will be the only hopes that the species homo sapiens has. What 1971 has taught, above all else, is that selfishness is another word for suicide. service into still other languages as required (e.g. German and Italian) and arranging for services in a variety of places, Churches, campuses, Homes for the Aged, hospitals, schools, and private homes.
