NEWS
FROM BELGRAVE
Approximately 60 Edgar relatives
gathered at the United Church in
Blyth for their annual Christmas
get-together. Special guests were
Helen Stonehouse from Braemar
Retirement Home in Wingham
(formerly of Belgrave), Irlma Edgar
of Wingham and Mait and Mary
Edgar from Petrolia. This year’s
hosts were Don Edgar of Wingham
and Joanne, Richard and Nick
Cortes of Tavistock.
Everyone enjoyed the Christmasdinner catered by Deb and FredHakkers. Santa arrived about 7:30p.m. to help deliver the gifts toeveryone along with his manyhelpers. Everyone enjoyed the gameof Court Whist and more food. This
year the weather co-operated,
making it easy for those who had to
travel a distance. There were four
generations attending from Aylmer,
Barrie, Belgrave, Blyth, Brigden,
Clinton, Goderich, London,
Petrolia, St. Helens and Wingham
and area.
The Belgrave Kinsmen went door
to door collecting food on Dec. 8
despite the stormy weather. They
would like to thank all those who
donated for the Salvation Army in
Wingham. It was a busy week for
the Kinsmen on Thursday, Dec. 9.
They held their annual Turkey
Bingo at the Belgrave Community
Centre with a good crowd, but not a
full house due to the weather.
The winners of the turkeys were:
Ellen Cook, Shandra Carmichael,
Jim Hunter, Mary Craig, Sharon
Yorke, Lois Chamney, Jane Meier,
Bev Morrison, Lila Rintoul and Deb
Pfeiffer. Barb Pletch and Curtis
Weber each won a wreath. The
two 50-50 bingos were won by
Linda Meier and Shirley Bowman.
The kids’ prizes were donated by
Isabel Campbell and were won by
Hunter McCullagh, Curtis Weber,
Rachel Cook, Austin Ireland,
Sydney Wightman, Makayla
Vanbeek, Brett Glousher, Landon
Brewer, Amelia Pletch, Lindsay
Shiell, Reagan McMichael and
Marshall Haines.
The Kinsmen would like to thank
Isabel Campbell for donating the
kids’ prizes and also to all those who
braved the weather to attend.
On Sunday, Dec. 19 at Knox
United Church, Advent 4 the first
three candles were lit – the light of
hope, the light of peace and the light
of joy. The fourth candle was also lit
helping us to remember that God is
Love and reminding us how
much God loves us. Jesus was born
into our world to show us how to
love one another. Rev. Tom
Murray’s sermon was entitled,
“Whatever Happened to Bad or
Good”.
Preparations for Christ’s coming
are concluded and now we await
Christmas Eve remembering
Christ’s coming to us and our being
reborn in Christ through the joyous
season of new beginnings.
On Sunday evening, Dec. 19 a
Blue Christmas worship was held at
Knox United Church at 7 p.m.
Christmas often has a way of
amplifying our sorrows, sadness and
fears; especially as we miss lovedones, worry about things, andgenerally wonder what’s true in life.Everyone with such feelings joinedin as God’s help was asked to helplive through them praying forhealing and reaching for hope.
The Family Worship Christmas
Eve Service will be held on Dec. 24
at 7 p.m. Please do join as we
celebrate the reason for the season –
the coming of Jesus to life and living
and are reminded how much we are
called to see that the love God gifted
to us be shared with the world
around us.
The Christmas Sunday Worship
(Boxing Day) is at 10:15 a.m. on
Dec. 26.
The community extendscongratulations to Tanya andAndrew Van Beek and big sistersMacKayla and Taylor on the birth ofRyden Andrew born on Nov. 30 atClinton Public Hospital.
When it comes to our customers, our
gratitude runs deep.
With best wishes
and many thanks to all.
