The Citizen, 2010-12-23, Page 44After the Dec. 8 inaugural session
of Huron County Council, a
Committee of the Whole meeting
was held on Dec. 15 as an
orientation session for the many new
councillors sitting around the
council table for the first time.
Due to the heavy snow that day,
some employees associated with
Huron County who were meant to
speak to the councillors were unable
to attend, including Huron County
solicitor Greg Stewart and HuronCounty treasurer David Carey. There were still, however, severaldepartment heads in attendance to
make presentations and discuss their
roles within the county for the
benefit of the councillors in a
meeting that took up the majority of
the day.
While there were plenty of
veterans around the table, such as
North Huron’s Neil Vincent, Huron
East’s Bernie MacLellan and Bill
Siemon among others such as Neil
Rintoul and Ben Van Diepenbeek,
there were a fair share of HuronCounty Council newcomers such asDavid Riach, Joe Steffler, PaulGowing, Jim Ginn and Dave Jewitt,
among others.
Councillors received a
presentation from the Huron County
Public Works Department’s director
David Laurie, detailing Huron
County’s roads, what it takes to
maintain them and the challenges he
and his department had been facing
over the previous week and a half ofheavy snowfall.Following Laurie, Huron CountyLibrarian and Director of Cultural
Services Beth Ross made a
presentation regarding Huron
County’s libraries.
Huron County Councillors also
received a presentation on Huron
County’s home for the aged by
homes administrator Barb Springall,
a presentation on planning and
development from that department’sdirector, Scott Tousaw and apresentation on Huron County’ssocial services and facilities from
that department’s director, Dave
Overboe.
Chief Administrative Officer Larry
Adams and Clerk Barb Wilson also
provided information on what the
administrative staff will provide for
the councillors as well as for Huron
County.
