ACW council approvesremuneration by-law
At the current Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh (ACW) Township
council’s last regular meeting
councillors passed a remuneration
bylaw increasing the pay received
by members of council.
Last updated in 2008, stipends
and meeting pay experienced a 2.9
per cent increase across the board.
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek,
under this new by-law, will receive a
$9,254.19 annual stipend.
ACW’s Deputy-Reeve, who will
be decided upon at council’s Dec. 7
meeting, will receive a $6,525.16
annual stipend, and councillors will
receive a $5,979.35 annual stipend.
All members of council will
receive $116.90 for attending
meetings or public functions that
last less than three and a half hours,
and $136.90 for meetings that last
longer.
Council did decide to change their
remuneration bylaw to allow
councillors to attend out-of-
province conferences with
permission of council.
Several councillors and Van
Diepenbeek expressed an interest in
attending conferences that move
around the nation, stating that they
provide excellent information and
that council shouldn’t limit
remuneration to conferences only
within the province.
Although members of council
may now be able to attend out-of-
province events, their yearly budget
for conferences remained at $2,000.
Council can allow exceptions to this
price.
Actual registration,
accommodation, transportation (by
most economical fare), meals and
per diem rates of $136.90 come
from this $2,000 budget.
Meal allowances remained at $25
per meal per day, up to three meals
per day, for time that a council
member spends representing the
township. Mileage rates remained at
44 cents per kilometre.
