Golf club zoning change will wait until spring; M-TA zoning change, required to
allow for creation of a new building
lot on what was previously part of
the Wingham Golf and Curling Club
likely won’t happen before spring,
Morris-Turnberry council was told at
its Nov. 30 meeting.
Nancy Michie, administrator,
clerk-treasurer, told council that the
Ministry of Natural Resources felt
the environmental assessment that
had been done to support the zoning
change, did not take into account
endangered species other than theWavyrayed Lampmussel which hasbeen known to be in the nearbyMaitland River. The new environmental assess-
ment will likely have to wait until
spring, postponing the zoning
change, Michie said.

The appeal of Don and Marian
Eadie of their assessment of costs for
the Baird Municipal Drain in
Turnberry Ward was rejected by the
drainage appeal tribunal.
The costs of the appeal will
be assessed to the overall cost
of that branch of the Baird
drain, Michie said.***Councillors received a breakdownof the $27,260 rebate for OPPpolicing costs for the January-June,
2010 period.
The municipality had been billed
for $132,678 as part of its policing
charge by the OPP but actual costs
for the first half of the year were
only $105,418.

During the first week of Advent,
the St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary
School staff and students took a
breath to prepare their hearts and
minds for calm and patience during
the Christmas hustle and bustle.
Everyone celebrated the sacrament
of Reconciliation on Thursday and
continue to focus on the theme of
“Be Inclusive and Included”.
Co-op students participated in a
‘Co-op Fair’ on Nov. 30. Co-
operative education allows students
the experience of understanding and
“getting a feel for” an occupation
while receiving a recognized high
school credit. Students created
displays of their achievements at
their co-op.
Although St. Anne’s had a
relatively calm week, the club goers
and athletes remained as busy as
ever. Students for Life ran a baby
clothing drive for teen mothers and
fathers. The Concert Band has
toured around to local elementary
schools to perform and spread
Christmas cheer. The Student
Cabinet is planning for Semi-
Formal with a “Fun House” theme.
The swim, curling, female
volleyball, male basketball, and
female and male hockey teams are
busy practising and competing.
As the Advent season has arrived,
St. Anne’s God Squad members
have organized an ‘Advent Project’.
Each homeroom is assigned a
family from Huron County, with the
goal of making ‘their families’
Christmas more joyful. Students are
asked to bring in gifts and supply
families who might not receive any.

On Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. the
Wingham Heritage Theatre will host
a performance by the Larry Mercey
Trio and special guests Randy
Satchell and Naomi Bristow.
Larry Mercey began his solo
career in early 1990 when his
brothers (The Mercey Brothers)
decided to retire from the music
scene. His first solo album brought
success with two number one hits,
“She Feels Like a New Man
Tonight” and “You’re Still in These
Crazy Arms of Mine”. In 2004
Mercey formed the Larry Mercey
Trio with talented musicians and
singers George Lonsbury and Al
Alderson.
Randy Satchell is a familiar voice
at the Wingham Heritage Theatre,
having performed on stage with the
Barn Dance Show on several
occasions. Randy was born in
Gadshill, Ontario and by age nine
was performing in his father’s
country band. By 14, he had started
his own band, “The Town and
Country Gentlemen” playing at
Stratford-area weddings, reunions
and outdoor festivals. Satchell has
opened for David Lee Murphy, John
Landry and Gil Grand and has two
albums, “Memories” and “This is
My Life”.
Naomi Bristow is 12 years old and
hails from a small farm in Beeton,
Ontario. Through her family’s
involvement in rodeo, she was
introduced to country music as a
youngster. According to her website,
“her great love for classic country
has lead her to self-taught
yodelling.”
Bristow has won the Fan’s Choice
Award at the Havelock Jamboree,
the Rising Star Award from the BC
Cowboy Heritage Festival and The
Western Music Association Youth
Yodeller of the Year.
Her third album titled “Ridin’
High” has just been named Best
Traditional Album of the Year in the
United States.
