councillor Alex Westerhout has
recently cancelled a wind contract
that was set to be executed on
property that he owns, citing several
concerns with the safety and the
contract as reasons.
A story published in The Citizen,
as well as many other local
newspapers in November, stated that
Westerhout had authorized two
projects on his property. Huron-
Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell said that
“wind projects like [the Westerhout
project] will bring investment and
jobs” to the area and that “Central
Huron is proud to be home to a
renewable energy project that will
power local homes with zero
emissions”.
Westerhout says that when the
press release was issued, he was in
the process of cancelling the
contract after he felt there were too
many unresolved issues surrounding
wind energy that he hadn’t initially
considered.

and farms will forever change the

The children of Auburn were all
quite happy when they awoke
Monday morning to their first snow
day of the 2010/2011 winter season.
Dec. 1 hit us with the wind and snow
and it seems to be continuing…no
green Christmas this year?
The weather did not deter the
Huron Chapel from continuing with
their “Living Nativity” on Sunday
evening. “A Walk Through
Bethlehem” was set up on the
grounds of the church and many
attended despite the blowing snow.Much needed warm refreshments, were provided following the tour. Many will have noticed that JohnAvenue has been littered with holeson the boulevards for the past coupleof weeks. The municipality has
contracted Lavis Construction to
complete the replacement of the
water lines from the municipal well
for the 14 households that are
currently online. The water lines
have been laid and shut-off valves
have been placed in front of each
household on John Avenue. Once
they’ve been completed and the
lines have been hooked into the
users’ homes the holes will be back-
filled.
Municipal well users should
remember that they are under a boil
water advisory until the new lines
are in working order.
WALKERBURN CLUB
The Walkerburn Club held its lastmeeting of the year at the home ofVera Penfound on Nov. 15. AudreyBoonstoppel was president of themonth and opened with the “FiveFinger Prayer”, followed by aRemembrance Day Poem. Eileen
read the minutes of the last meeting
and Ila Cunningham gave the
treasurer’s report and read the
correspondence. Roll call was
answered with nine members stating
what they did or didn’t like about the
month of November.
The nursing home in Clinton is
opening again and the club has
offered the services provided in
previous years. There was only one
resident, so the group has decided to
skip the Carol singing for this year.
A discussion took place about some
material and quilt blocks that were
donated to the club. It was agreed
that instead of making a big quilt,
the club would make lap quilts. They will be donated to a worthycause. Hopefully a crib quilt will bethe project at the next meeting.Vera Penfound read a story aboutBluebirds and a poem onRemembrance written by Beth
Knox, formerly of Londesborough.
Audrey Boonstoppel was a very
capable auctioneer for a
miscellaneous sale. The result was a
little over $100 that will be split
between the Salvation Army and the
Christmas Bureau. Ila Cunningham
brought a delicious chocolate cake
and ice cream. Deanna Snell and
Dorothy Schneider served the lunch.
A social half-hour was enjoyed.
The next meeting is to be on Jan.
9 at the home of Dorothy Schneider.
Christena Gross will be president of
the month. Vera Penfound will
supply the lunch and Mary Elder the
program.
