Snow a sign of Christmas
Yippee the snow is here as I write.
It’s the good kind, the kind that
makes you think of Christmas and
all the other good things about
winter. This morning the trees
outside the window look like a
greeting card, oh so beautiful. It sets
the mind and the mood into getting
ready for the fast-approaching
festivities.
A tradition in Huron County
churches is to hold a White Gift
service where sharing gifts with the
Christmas Bureau is part of the
offering. Gifts are covered in white
so each gift offered is equal and
everyone has the joy of giving. Thegenerosity is awesome. This is thetrue meaning of Christmas – to givehumbly with generosity with no
expectation of reward. Delivering
the gifts to the designated church, so
the families can make their choices
next week makes you realize the
abundance of generous people in our
midst.
The Sunday school crew at the
United Church told the familiar
story with drama and music. We had
the manger scene with good work by
angels, shepherds, wise people and
of course the Holy family. It was a
most orderly scene – well done all.
Thanks Kathy, Julie and Patty. Each
year as the story of Jesus’ birth is
told, new faces and voices repeat the
story and we take away what we
wish. For many years in many
languages and places, the basic story
of a humble human birth is told.
Each December we prepare for
Christmas. It’s the mysterious parts
of that old story that we each edit in
our own way and in our own time.
And so once again the story is toldand once again we listen.“Noel We Wing” was the BlythFestival Singers presentation on
Sunday afternoon at Knox
Presbyterian Church in Goderich.
The singing was marvellous under
the direction of Robert Blackwell. It
always amazes me that Sharon
Johnston can accompany them so
beautifully and never seems to watch
her notes. A thrill this year was the
addition of guests Angus Sinclair
and Al Mullin. Together they rocked
the room with the piano and the
flugelhorn (trumpet) as chestnuts
danced in our heads. Organ solos by
Angus had the toes tingling. A nice
touch, after the great performances
was some of Lewie’s good cider
with cinnamon. So thanks for
getting the music of the season into
our heads.
As I watched the clean-up crew
after church lunch on Sunday, it got
me wondering about Santa’s
workshop. People bustling, things
