The Brussels Legion Branch 218
has been busy catering to fish fry
events this week. The crew was off
to Wroxeter to feed the 200 diners
supporting the Wroxeter Hall Board.
Comrades helping for the job
included Norm Dobson, Rick
McDonald, Glenn Bridge, Lawrence
Machan, Ron Howatt, Sharon
Robbins, Eric Ross and Jo-Ann
McDonald.
The second fish fry was at the
Branch. A smaller crowd enjoyed
the fare. Comrades helping included
Greg Wilson, Barrie Currie, Mike
Dauphin, Andy Overholt, Cam Ross
and Kim Peacock.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had just under 10 tables of players
hoping to be winners. The first-place
team was Delores Howatt and
Lillian with 79 points. The second-
place team was Doreen Skinner and
Marjorie Mogk with 73 points and
in third was couple George and
Gloria Love with 72 points. The
lone-hand prizes went to Frank
Hulley for the men and Joann
MacDonald for the ladies. The low
prize for the day went to Stuart and
Lois Chamney with a low of 42
points. Euchre is every two weeks.
The Sunday night dance had a
great crowd of over 100 enjoying the
music of the Country Versatiles.
The seniors luncheon held on
Monday at noon had over 35 enjoy a
roast pork dinner. Seniors Chair,
Comrade Wanda Walker welcomed
everyone to the afternoon. After
dinner was enjoyed, she introduced
Neil McGavin. Neil spoke and
showed slides from his family’s
recent trip to New Zealand. He and
Marie, along with other area
Brussels folks, attended the World
Plowing Match held in the beautiful
country of New Zealand. It was a
lovely afternoon enjoyed by all.
Helping out for the meal were
Wanda, Mary Bradshaw, Deb Cann,
Dianne Machan, John Lowe and Jo-
Ann McDonald.

for the special anniversary ceremony
on the weekend. At that point in
time, the church was part of a four-
point parish including Brussels,
Blyth, Auburn and Belgrave.
Currently, St. John’s part of a four-
point parish called the Anglican
Parish of New Beginnings that
includes Brussels, Blyth, Lucknow
and Wingham, the church has
shared a parish with many
churches over the years, including
St. Alvin’s in Atwood, St. David’s
in Henfryn and St. George’s in
Walton.
In the June 10 issue of The Citizen,
the report of the Brussels United
Church Women’s May meeting
incorrectly identified Pastor Sandra
Cable as showing pictures and
telling of her trip to China when it
was actually Joan Bernard who
travelled to China and gave a
presentation.
We apologize for any confusion
this may have caused.
