The Citizen, 2010-06-03, Page 7THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 2010. PAGE 7. Fourth Anniversary Friday - Sunday June 4 - 5 - 6 Open Fri. 10-6 Sat. 10-5, Sun. 11-4 The haying season has begun and I have seen many dairy farmers out there cutting hay. The hot weather sure has been great for the hay, but not so much for working in it. Many farmers are out there spraying the crops as well and just a few are still planting some beans. We are all putting our faith in the weather, the dollar and hopefully better prices forour crops, to make a successfulfarming year ahead. We hope Casey McCutcheon comes along as we hear he has suffered a broken hip. Surgery is in the plan but not sure when. Our best to Casey. Our speedy recovery wishes go out to Campbell Wey who has suffered a broken hip. He is said to be coming along well and we hope to see him out and about real soon. Our condolences to the family of Leona Snyder, who passed away last week. Her family includes Donna, Richard, Debbie and Darlene and their extended families. I remember meeting Leona over 30 years ago when I first came to Brussels. Shewas a hard-working lady and would tell me tales of the chicken barns on the farm. She was always pleasant and after her move to Huronlea, our occasional meeting on the street still produced a smile for both of us. Our sympathies to all. Congratulations to Steve and Barb Bowles on the birth of a beautiful little girl, Megan Barbara. Big brother Zack, is thrilled to have his little sister arrive. Gramma Joyce Alexander had pictures to show of granddaughter number six, double the number of grandsons for her and Bob. Congratulations to all. Our congratulations to Jim Cook and Patty Banks who havepurchased the former Coutts home. They are busy painting and doing minor repairs before moving in sometime this month. Congratulations to Chester and Wilda Higgins on celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday afternoon. They had many old friends, family and neighbours drop in and wish them well. Enjoying a nice weekend away were Bob and Joyce Alexander. They went for a drive and ended up in Midland. They report it was quite nice in the area and they checked out the crops while on their way. Celebrating birthdays this past week includes Geri-Lee Godkin, Trevor Sutcliffe, Johanna Blake, Pat Dalton, Erin Baan, Adam Forbes, Rob Shortreed, Scott Henderson, Neil McGavin, Kyle Pryce, Patricia Andrades, Bill Humphries, Ernie Lewington, and Shelley Coleman. Happy birthday to all. Higgins celebrate 50th anniversary Challenge: Getting enough fibre to promote a healthy digestive system and help control blood sugar and cholesterol levels Solution:High fibre foods are generally lower in fat and may also help with weight control as they provide bulk to make you feel full. Women up to the age of 50 should aim for 25 grams of fibre per day. Check labels for foods containing more than 4 grams of fibre per serving to help you boost your intake. Fibre-rich foods include dried cooked beans and lentils, green peas, papayas, pears with skin, mangoes, potatoes with skin, dried fruit, berries, nuts and seeds, whole grain breads and cereals.
