The first graduating class of
Practical Nurses in Huron County
will be honoured at a graduation
celebration on Saturday, April 10 at
2 p.m. at the Seaforth Legion Hall,
156 Main St., Seaforth.
The Practical Nursing program is
delivered through a satellite site of
Georgian College in Seaforth and
co-ordinated through the
HealthKick project. The students,
from such communities as Zurich,
Bayfield, Goderich, Wingham,
Clinton, Atwood, Stratford and
Bornholm, started their training in
September 2005. The student nurses
committed to completing two to
three courses in each of three
semesters per year over four years.
All this has been accomplished
while they maintained jobs and
family responsibilities. They have
participated in clinical placements
which have been hosted by local
healthcare facilities including:
• Hospitals: Goderich/Listowel/
Stratford/Wingham/Seaforth
• LTC: Blue Water Rest Home/
Caressant Care/Huronview/
Seaforth Manor/Maitland Manor/
Queensway/ Mitchell Nursing
Home
• Community: Carepartners/
VON/St. Elizabeth
The instructors were for the most
part local healthcare professionals
who share their skills, knowledge
and love of their career. Twenty
students have completed the
training and are ready to join our
healthcare system.
The organizing committee,
comprised of the HealthKick
steering committee including the
Huron East Seaforth Community
Development Trust, Huron Business
Development Corporation and
Georgian College, had invited local
politicians, representatives of the
local communities, healthcare
network, program delivery team and
families of the graduates to share
the pride and effort these nurses
have devoted to their career training
over the last four years.
