Huron County councillors got a
first look at the new Shop In Huron
marketing initiative that aims to
keep Huron County dollars in Huron
County.
Two years ago, 12 delegates from
around the county went to a
conference in Boston. From then,
the idea has taken two years to
develop.
At the Feb. 10 meeting of Huron
County council, Community
revitalization co-ordinator Kerri
Herrfort said that for $50 businesses
can buy into the Shop In Huron
initiative, which includes exposure
through the program and on the
Shop In Huron website, which will
be officially launched later this year.
She also has announced that the
program’s first business has signed
up already.
The concept surrounds a canvas
bag that can be purchased by
consumers for $10, which will
afford them discounts and perks
throughout participating businesses
in the county.
The bags, which were made in
Walton, bear the new Shop In Huron
logo. They must be brought into
participating businesses in order for
the consumer to receive the discount
or perk being a member of this club
affords them.
In order to get the program up and
running, the Huron Business
Leaders Network was established
and Chelsea Burchill was hired as
the Local First co-ordinator.
The initiative’s slogan, which is
My History, My Huron, My Future,
is aimed at maintaining the vitality
of the community, which is one of
the main priorities of this program.
Bump it
Normally reserved for beaches and gyms, last weekend saw volleyball played outdoors in the
snow as part of the winter carnival held in Brussels. Teams got together and were serving,
bumping and digging out of the snow outside the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community
Centre. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

chilly and Mabel reports having to
wear her winter coat many days.
They were there with members of
Mabel’s family.
They kept themselves busy
visiting Epcot Centre and MGM
Theme Park at Disneyland. They
also went to Cape Canaveral and
many other attractions of Florida.
Mabel even went golfing one day
and reports that maybe it’s really not
her thing. The weather did get better
and warmer before their return and
they did have an enjoyable time
away.
The community Valentine’s party
held at the Walton Hall was attended
