The Citizen, 2010-02-18, Page 8After success at the WOSSA meet, Feb. 10, St. Anne’s first-ever Nordic ski team will be sending nine skiers to the OFSSAA meet on Feb. 25 and 26. The junior and senior boys teams finished second overall and in the relay event, to advance. Individual results for relay members are: juniors, Jason Huber, second; Tyson VanOsch, 15th; Michael Kramers, 17th and Liam Maaskant, 20th; seniors, Jordan Kadlecik, fourth; Grant Sparling, fifth; Stephen Lambert, seventh; Pat Hartman, 22nd and Craig Thompson, 23rd. St. Anne’s also had eight girls compete. Team coach is Dave Cann, a St. Joseph’s elementary school teacher. SportsPAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2010. The Brussels Atom Reps played another nailbiter as they hosted Zurich last Wednesday, Feb. 10 for game two of this title series. After several shots at the net, Wyatt Machan got one in with the help of Delayna Smith and Noah Terpstra, to give Brussels a 1-0 lead. At the start of the second period, Zurich tied it. A minute later, Brussels again took the lead. This was done by Kailey Wheeler with the help of Smith and Machan. In the third period, Zurich scored three goals to take the lead. Then with just three minutes left on the clock, Terpstra fired one in to tie it 4-4. In overtime, the pressure was intense. After both teams took several shots at the nets, it was a breakaway for Jack Pipe that netted the victory for Brussels. Brussels leads the series two games to none in the best-of-five series for the WOAA E title. Snow much fun It was fun and games in North Huron this past weekend with the Family-Fun-Apalooza-Winter-Luge-a-Thon. Kids were taking the ice game to the streets in Belgrave on Sunday with the road hockey games. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Atoms play Zurich The Brussels PeeWee Reps had a busy, but successful week. Last Monday, Feb. 8, they travelled to Howick for game three of the best- of-five series. It took Brussels a full seven minutes of play before Mitch Kellington lit up the scoreboard. He had the help of Wyatt Ducharme. Just a minute later, he scored again. This time he was assisted by Hayden TenPas. Early in the second, Kellington scored his hattrick. Later, Luke McCutcheon fired one from just inside the blueline to make it 4-0. He had the help of Tim Waechter and Scott Dolmage. TenPas fired one in past the Howick goalie early in the third to make it 5-0. With the help of Colton Hastings, McCutcheon scored his second of the game with 2:18 left on the clock. Brussels shutout Howick 6-0. Solid in net was Matt McNichol. This was the seventh shutout for Brussels this season. On Wednesday night, Feb. 10, Brussels hosted Zurich for the start of the WOAA E title series. This will be a best-of-five series. Zurich took an early 1-0 lead. This got the Brussels kids fired up and on their toes. Dolmage tied it in the second period with the help of Ducharme and McCutcheon. Ducharme netted his first of the game a little while later. He was helped by Reece McArter. Five minutes later, he netted another one, this time with the help of Dolmage and Hastings. With 1:49 left in the second, Hastings fired one in with a pass from Dolmage and Ducharme. McCutcheon netted another with a pass from Ducharme. Kellington scored two to round out the 7-4 victory. He was assisted by TenPas and Nic Zwep. Solid on defence in this game were Zwep, McCutcheon, Waechter, McArter and Sean Mitchell. Brussels leads this one game to none.Big win The Blyth Midget Rep Bulldogs advanced to the next phase of their season Feb. 8 with a win over Drayton by a score of 8-4 and a sweep of their WOAA final series. The team now moves onto the OMHA semi-final, which will begin on Feb. 22 against an opponent that has yet to be determined. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Brussels PeeWee Reps wrap up a great week The Saugeen Maitland PeeWee Lighting As eked out a 2-1 victory over the Oakville Hornets in the championship game of the Silver Stick Tournament in Sarnia. After finishing the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 1- 1-1 record they defeated Sarnia 2-0 in the semi-finals to earn a spot in the finals.
