This week at Blyth Public School
the teachers were very busy marking
all their students’ speeches, projects
and more.
The students have been trying to
memorize their speeches. Many
intermediate students have also been
working on their science fair
projects and design projects.
Ms Badham had the pleasure of
announcing who won the in-class
speeches competition: Grade 6, first,
Phaedra S.; second, Ward V. andthird, Dawn C.; Grade 7s, first, Joel
S.; second, Kenzi N. and third,
Ryan P.; Grade 8 class, first, Kody
T.; second, Tine V.; third, Robbie
G.
The student council had an in-
school Valentine’s dance attended by
Grade 6, 7 and 8s.

For the second consecutive year,
Sparling’s Propane is honoured to be
included among the Top 50 Best
Small and Medium Employers in
Canada.
Sparling’s is ranked 35th in the
sixth annual list published in the
Feb. 10 Globe & Mail. That’s the
same position the company earned
last year.
“This is quite an honour and I am
pleased for the men and women
who work at Sparling’s. This is a
credit to them. The company
receives the recognition, but this
award belongs to our employees,”
says company founder Grant
Sparling.
“We have great people who
operate in a process driven
workplace. We take care of our
customers in the safest ways
possible. We use the best practices
and the latest technology. But
achievements aren’t about process
or technology, achievements
are about people – and I am
pleased for everyone at Sparling’s,
says Judy Lajeunesse, human
resources co-ordinator at
Sparling’s.
Becoming a Top 50 Best Small
and Medium Employer is a very
detailed and highly competitive
process. This prestigious national
awards program recognizes top
employers with between 50 and 400
employees.
The rankings are primarily
determined using the results from
employee opinion surveys: 21 key
engagement drivers are detailed and
analyzed. The evaluation process
also includes the assessment of
organization practices and
perspectives from the leadership
team.
This year, more than 200
companies across Canada
participated in the study. Study
partners include Queen’s School of
Business, Queen’s Centre for
Business Venturing and Hewitt
Associates.
Sparling’s is a privately-held
company, established in Blyth in
1951. It is the second largest
propane company in Ontario and
provides propane and Guaranteed
Customer Services from Regional
Facilities in southern and central
Ontario.

Good luck to the broomball teams
who are travelling to Lefroy for
tournaments in Lefroy and Barrie.
By the time the paper comes out they
will have won or lost but had fun no
matter what.
Reports from the snowbirds is that
it is not very warm in the south and
if it is warmer it is raining. They
have had snow in many places that
don’t get snow and wish they could
send it to Vancouver as they seem to
be having the warm weather.
I talked to a cousin on Vancouver
Island and she says the flowers are
coming out which usually happens
in March.
Mother Nature seems to be a little
mixed up this year. We have had a
real nice winter so far – not having
to blow snow too often.
Those celebrating birthdays this
coming week are myself, Feb. 18;
Christine Hoba of Clinton, Feb. 19;
Sharon Jackson, Joan Caldwell,
Shirley Giilck, all of Blyth and
Robbie Lawrie of Bayfield, Feb. 22;

Josling, Blyth, Feb. 24; Sharon
