The Citizen, 2010-02-18, Page 2Valentine’s Day is gone for
another year. I hope you got the right
stuff from your sweetheart on Feb.
14 – you know the jewels, the
chocolate, the flowers.
With all the advertising, one could
hardly forget the day of red and
love.
The newest statutory holiday is
also a goner and with that, the month
is half gone.
I hope you used Family Day to
increase your family time as well as
catch up on the details of life that
can overwhelm one or at least catch
up on your sleep.
Olympic fever is building.
Coverage of the games keeps us up
to speed, ensuring that we feel part
of the great effort put in by so many.
From the athletes who have worked
for years honing their skills, to the
organizers and the volunteers whose
plans are now a reality, the 2010
games are here.
Now all the plans and dreams meet
on the same ground – Vancouver and
Whistler is the real thing right now.
Go Canada, go!
If you’ve been consulting your
Legion calendar for coming events,
I’d like to advise you that Queen
Victoria’s tea is not going to happen
this year.
I could tell you great stories about
the butler, the scullery staff and even
about the Queen herself, but in the
event we wish to celebrate with them
at another time I’ll just say the tea is
not going to happen in March as
planned.
Winterlude is on, in full force in
our nation’s capital. Feb. 21 is the
last day of the organized fun for the
canal. Ottawa really knows how to
celebrate winter and they invite the
rest of the country to dig out the long
underwear and come play in the
cold.
Ice from Hensall is used to
produce magnificent sculptures for
all to admire.
Skating on the 9 km of the Rideau
Canal is another drawing card as
well as music, entertainment and lots
of regular snow activities.
t’s a great place to pass winter
days.
Take care of yourself and celebrate
the winter.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
