be a round robin with Howick,
Zurich and Brussels.
The top two teams from this round

Madill Nordic skiers don’t just
ski, they ski well and raise money
for charity at the same time.
Several Madill skiers travelled to
Duntroon Highlands on Jan. 13 to
raise money for the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society of Canada. The
weather couldn’t have been more
perfect with sunny skies and fresh
snow.
Every Madill skier had a fantastic
race. Jamie Pollard and Belgrave’s
Trevor Raynard completed their first
full-length ski races.
The senior girls dream team of
Erin Yungblut, Emily Yungblut and
JulieAnne Staelhi raced for a one,
two, three clean sweep of the medals
and together with Michele
Studhalter of Blyth finished first in
the girl’s relay.
Ron Groen won senior boys
hands-down while in the junior girls
Studhalter brought home a silver and
Rachel Nivins placed fifth.
Coach Julie Sawchuck of Blyth
can’t wait to see the same super
success at the Huron-Perth
championship on Feb. 4 in
Duntroon.

The Saugeen Maitland PeeWee
Lightning competed in its first
tournament of 2010 and struck gold.
In the round-robin portion of the
tournament the girls opened up with
a 2-0 victory over the Belleville
Bearcats. In game two the Lightning
scored with only 32 seconds
remaining in the third period to draw
even against Durham West in a one-
all tie.
In Saugeen’s only game on
Saturday they skated to a convincing
6-0 win over the host Scarborough
Sharks.
This victory clinched first in their
pool and a bye into Sunday’s semi
finals.
In an entertaining contest the team
prevailed 2-0 over the Clarington
Flames and earned a berth into the
finals against the Willowdale Red
Wings.
Two equally-matched teams
battled to a one-all draw. They then
entered a five-minute sudden death
overtime period of four-on-four
hockey. The gold was claimed at the
2:12 mark of this nail-biting contest.
