The Brussels PeeWee Reps
hosted Elma Logan for their last
regular season game on Wednesday,
Jan. 6.
Brussels came out strong and
easily took the 4-1 victory, despite
several penalties on both sides.
Scoring for Brussels were Mitch
Kellington, Scott Dolmage and
Wyatt Ducharme with two. Assisting
were Ducharme, Nathan Armstrong,
Colton Hastings, Luke McCutcheon
and Tim Waechter.
Continuing his solid play in net
was goalie Matt McNichol.
The Reps ended the season
undefeated, with 14 wins and a tie.
They have entered into the first
round of playoffs with Howick,
Clifford and Zurich. Check out
www.brusselsminorhockey.ca for
the schedule.
In their first playoff game against
Howick, the Brussels PeeWee Reps
were ready for action.
Scott Dolmage led the scoring by
netting the first goal, unassisted, just
eight seconds into the game.
Minutes later, Mitch Kellington
was quick to add his puck to the net.
Midway through the first, Hayden
TenPas scored, assisted by
Kellington.
Howick netted one of their own to
make it 3-1 for Brussels.
Luke McCutcheon fired one in
from the blueline to add to the
Brussels total. He was assisted by
Nic Zwep and Wyatt Ducharme.
In the second period, Ducharme
found the back of the net to take a 5-
1 lead. Kellington scored, assisted
by Dolmage.
With 54 seconds left on the clock,
Howick squeaked in their second
goal to end the period 6-2.
The third period was rough.
Penalties were called on both sides.
Then with just 21 seconds left on the
clock, Kellington scored his hattrick
ending the game 7-2 for Brussels.
Joining the Reps from the locals
were Austin Johnston, Colton
Hastings and Jason Baxter.
The PeeWee Reps played against
Clifford last Wednesday night, Jan.
13.This was the second game in the
round-robin series.
Each team fought hard in the first
period, with neither finding the net.
Early in the second period,
Ducharme scored on a breakaway
shot thanks to the help of Dolmage
and McCutcheon. Later Kellington
scored with the assistance of TenPas
and Zwep.
Seconds later, Clifford scored to
make it 3-1 for Brussels, but it was
no longer the easy sweep the
PeeWees expected. Pulling up their
socks, and now thinking they needed
to work a little harder, TenPas netted
one with Kellington and Dolmage
helping him out.
In the third period, the pressure
was on. Several penalties were
called on both sides for slashing,
roughing and interference.
Clifford scored again.
TenPas netted one more before the
end of the game.
Brussels took a 4-2 victory and
will play Clifford this Friday night
on their ice.
On Sunday evening in Lower
Lakes Female Hockey League action
the Saugeen Maitland Lightning AA
Midgets tied 0-0 with the St.
Thomas Panthers.
Emily Kelly held strong between
the pipes for the Lightning and
chalked up another shutout while the
defence for both teams excelled
throughout the game.
The girls are next in action this
Saturday at home at the Howick
Arena playing the Waterloo Warriors
at 5 p.m.
Brussels PeeWees win, win
The Brussels Atom Local
League’s first game was against
Seaforth. They worked really hard
but came out with a loss. Seaforth
was able to get two in by Jarron
Thompson.
The second game was against
Blyth. The team had a slow start and
in the second half they had some
scoring chances but nothing
worked.
Thompson played well in net but
Brussels was only able to put one in
by Kailey Wheeler assisted by
Hudson Smith.
The final score was 4-1.
Big win

Sunday for a playoff game and were whitewashed by the
relentless host team. The local Midget Reps glided to a
resounding 8-0 finish. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Blyth arena was the setting for the
first broomball game of the new year
as the Blyth Midget boys hosted
their latest match against the
Mildmay boys on Jan. 15.
Blyth’s goalkeeper Wyatt Bearss
stood strong in net and really helped
his team stay in the game making
numerous saves throughout the
game. The ball was passed up and
down the ice but neither team could
score. Blyth played smart and didn’t
allow their opponents to score
during their power play advantage.
Mildmay took a turn in the penalty
box in the second half and Blyth
players showed some great heart and
determination trying their best to
score but couldn’t get the ball past
the goaltender.
Five minutes into the second
period Blyth received a penalty and
Mildmay was able to get on the
scoreboard after two Blyth players
tipped the ball into their own net
while trying to remove the ball from
the crease.
Mildmay widened the lead after
scoring a nice goal into the top shelf
of the net, with just nine minutes of
play left in the game.
Mildmay received a four-minute
penalty, giving Blyth the man
advantage, but Blyth still couldn't
score. Blyth played a good game,
but walked away with a
disappointing 2-0 loss against
Mildmay.
All together now

The teams all seem to be improving
which has resulted in a lot of good
close matches.
On Monday, Jan. 11 the daytime
curlers got the action underway.
The shot of the day came from Mac
Inglis, who with his final rock,
slipped by the guard and played a
takeout tap to the button to edge out
skip Gord Heatherington. Other
winning skips were Barry Simpson,
Ron McMichael, Les Shaw, Glenn
McMichael and John Mann.
The Tuesday night ladies had the
teams skipped by Carol Horton,
Jenn Elston and Amy Miller pick
up wins. The Tuesday competitive
league saw Don Edgar, Russ
Taylor and the two Devos brothers,
Bill and Aart come away with
victories.
In Wednesday action it was great
to see Jay Marston’s team pick up a
win. Team Karen Burke and John
Dailleboust were also winners.
Thursday daytime curlers had
several games come down to the
last end. Winning skips were Gord
Heatherington, Bill Tolton, Mac
Inglis, Irving Elliott, Allan Webster

picking up wins were Cam Cook,

in a row, Bill McDonald came from
behind to tie the game in the eighth
end and like Thursday won the
game with the closest draw to the

Simpson.
