The Citizen, 2010-01-21, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2010.By Jo-Ann McDonaldIt has been a busy week at theBrussels Legion Branch with food,
food and more food being prepared.
The Huron County Beef
Producers held their annual meeting
Wednesday evening at the Branch.
There were nearly 70 people in
attendance to enjoy the delicious
roast beef dinner. The group enjoyed
a performance by Country Clem.
Elections and guest speakers
completed the evening.
A Brussels-area young man, Matt
McCall, is the new president of the
Beef Producers.
Branch help included Deb Cann,
Jo-Ann McDonald, Judy Lee,Catrina Josling and Cecil Moore. Acouple of Cadets helped with dishes
to earn community service hours.
If there are any students looking to
earn community hours, they can
contact the Branch and leave their
names.
The Friday night supper of roast
beef was enjoyed by nearly 50 folks.
This week smoked pork picnic
shoulder and scalloped potatoes are
on the menu.
Saturday was the first wings, fries
and meat draw for 2010. There was a
great crowd of around 40 to enjoy
the food and hopefully prizes. The
chefs in the kitchen were Jason and
Lee-Ann Konarski and looking after
the draw was a collaborative affair
with John Lowe, Deb Ross, Jo-Ann
McDonald and Sandra Josling.
The next special wing night will
be Feb. 13 to celebrate Valentine’s
Day.
The Thursday night darts had 15
players, some new, joining in for a
night of fun. The first-place teamwas Glen Zehr, Catrina Josling andJohn Harrison. In second were Kaye
Smith and Gord Jacklin.
The high shots were by John
Harrison with 140 and Deb Burch
scoring 120. The high start of the
evening was by Bush Whittard, with
72.
Come out and join the fun any
Thursday evening.
There were three teams of four
heading off to play to play Zone
euchre in Hensall on Saturday. One
team played well enough to advance
to District play in March: Helen
Dobson, Elaine Nichol, BobRichardson and John Harrison. Theother eight players had a good day
but didn’t qualify: Glenn Bridge,
Bush Whittard, Norm Dobson and
Bill Robb, Sandra Josling, Jim
Brown, Cecil Moore and Jo-Ann
McDonald.
There are only a couple of weeks
left to pay your dues and remain a
member in good standing. Please
send in your dues immediately or
drop into the Branch.
The Ethel euchre was held on
Monday, Jan. 11 with five tables in
play.
Share-the-wealth winners were
Keith Turnbull, Dorothy Dilworth.
All players received a prize.
The next euchre will be held on
Monday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m.
