The bylaw cited that further review on the topic was needed, effectively halting the project for at least one year. Brock and Janis Vodden were named Citizens of the Year for Blyth and area due to their tireless work in chronicling Blyth’s history. Rene Richmond was named Citizen of the Year for Brussels and area for her volunteer work throughout the community. Over 70 Blyth and area residents petitioned the Ministry of Education due to what the residents said was a decision that had been made before the accommodation review process had even started. The Bluewater Kennel Club’s All Breed Dog Show and ObedienceTrials made its way to Blyth for itsannual visit.Blyth was given its first ever blooddonor clinic, which was sponsoredby the Blyth Masonic Lodge in partnership with the Blyth Fire Department. Dr. Michael Curtis and Dr. Carmen Schmitz were officially welcomed to Huron County as two new doctors practising in Clinton as part of the Family Health Team. While it could not be confirmed, wild weather resembling a tornado touched down in Ethel causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Central Huron reeve Bert Dykstra announced his intention to run for Huron County warden, a chair he would eventually win, beating out Morris-Turnberry’s Dorothy Kelly. A motorcycle ride from London to Wingham made its inaugural trip in honour of local fallen war hero Matt Dinning. A former employee of Wescast Industries in Wingham was charged with fraud, allegedly embezzling over $400,000 in company funds over the span of five years. Four local contestants began their quest for the title of Brussels Ambassador, with Jolanda Smith eventually coming out on top.
