A solo hOnnehin by Cam
Colquhoun' and superb pitching
by Cam MacDonald and Ed. Deer
were the highlights in Clinton
3-2 victory over Dashwood last
Wednesday evening.
With the game tied up 2-2 in
the ninth, Cam Colquhoun
drilled a homerun over centre
field off Dave Rats to give
Clinton their I run lead, ,
The pitchers for both teams
threw great ball. Ratz struck out
10 Clinton batters and gave up
on 6 hits and allowed no walks
while MacDonald retired 6 by,
strikeouts, walked 2 and gave up,
5 hits before leaving the game in
the 7th with 1 man on base.
Ed Deer who won Clintons 1st
genie over Dashwood had
control troubles for his first 2
batters walking both and loading
the bases. This was the first time
in the game that Dashwood had
a man reach 3rd base.
Bob Hoffman greeted Daer
with a sharp single up the centre
scoring 2 runs and tieing up the
game at 2-2.
A strikeout by John Hayter
and a flyout to Stu Mustard
ended the inning with two men
left on base, •
Mustard led off the 8th with
a single and was put out at
second on Brad Dutot's infield
hit.
Daer allowed a single to Brad'
Desjardine with 2 outs in the
eighth but Butch Fleet picked
him off trying to steal 2nd base.
The ninth inning was a classic
with great drama after Cam
Colquhoun belted Rates 1st
pitch for his homerun. Ratz
struck out Laurie Colquhoun
and Ed Daer and Doc Miller
fouled out to the catcher.
Cord Vincent hit what
appeared to be a homerun but
fleetfoOted Stu Mustard pulled
the ball 'down at the fence in
dead centre. The ball struck the
end of his glove and fell back
into the playing field. Clinton
ended the inning with a fly out
to Laurie Colquhoun and two
ground outs in the infield.
Brad Dutot scored the Colts 2
runs, one in the 4th and his
second in the 6th.

Softball .
Quite a few spectators from
Clinton travelled to Brodhagen
last Monday evening to witness
the softball game between
Clinton and Tavistock girls to
decide which team held first
place in the schedule.
Unfortunately, the local girls
were defeated by the Tavistock
squad by the score of 7-2.
Clinton runs were scored by
Ruth Ann Neilans who walloped
a home run to start off the third
inning at bat, and Mickie
McPherson who connected for a
three-bagger and came home on
a single by Deanie Strong.
Dianne Cunningham and
Sandra Fremlin teamed up as the
battery for the Clinton girls.
Standing at the end of the
scheduled games was Tavistock
in first place; Clinton, second;
Harriston, third; and Brodhagen,
fourth.
The first game in the
semi-finals will take place at
Clinton when Brodhagen girls
will meet the local nine. The
game will be played tonight

The Clinton Ponies eliminated
the Goderich Pee Wee All Stars
Sunday night from W.O.A.A.
playoffs when they edged them
6-4.
The win coupled with
Thursday's 7-2 victory gave the
Ponies the best of three
semi-final series two straight.
In Thursday's game, Mark
Nicholson was the winning
pitcher striking out eight
Goderich batters and before
being relieved in the fifth inning
hit a single and a triple.
The Ponies scored three runs
in the first inning on hits by R.
McAdam, S. Cook, and B. Irwin
and a sacrifice by G. Butler.
They added two runs in the
third when G. Butler again
sacrificed driving in S. Cook and
B. Irwin who each had three
hits. R. McAdam and D.
Campbell had two hits.
In Sunday's thriller, Steve
Cook relieved M. Nicholson in
the 2nd inning and held the
Goderich All Stars scoreless after
they had their four runs off the
starter. Cook struck out eight,
batters.
The Ponies, after being down
4-2 after three innings tied it up
on the 1st Pee Wee home run in
Goderich when Bill Irwin blasted
one over the left field fence with
Cook on base.
The Ponies then scored the
winning run in the 5th inning
when McAdam singled and was
sacrificed in by K. Carter, The
insurance run was scored by D.
Campbell after his single on an
error.
The game thrilled the fans. In
the bottom half of the last
inning Goderich loaded the bases
with two out. S. Cook then with
a 3 ball 2 strike count on the
batter threw a perfect strike to
win the game.
Other Pony hitters were R.
McAdam with a pair, G. Butler
with a double and M. Nicholson
a single.
The Ponies now meet the
winners of the Walk-
erton-Listowel semi-finals.

A little black box which
warns a driver whenever he
deviates from his driving norm
promises to become an
important factor in highway
safety, reports Canadian
Automotive Trade business
publication. The robot gadget
beeps a drowsing motorist into
wakefulness and flashes an
amber caution light when he
drives recklessly.
How does it work? The
1
developer of the unit found each
driver has a definite pattern ,of
steering wheel reversals as
personal as a fingerprint. The
reversals slow down when you
drowse • and speed up
considerably when you're tense.
The pattern is so distinct, drivers
tend to adjust their speeds
according to their rate of wheel
reversals rather than the other
way around.
The robot simply picks up a
pattern during the first few
minutes of operation, stores it,
then measures up the rest of
your driving against it.
