How do you convince a four-year Old child that you are really and truly interested in him? That's my big problem today. It all started the ether day when my Presellooler came to me with huge pathetic eyes and wailing, "Why aren't you instrusted in me?" You know mon, a question like that can shake you up a bit. Here you are, up to your neck in housework and every fibre of your being intense upon pleasing your family and some little kid comes along and shakes you right out of your apathetic tree. "I'M interested in you, honey," i told him, smiling, rather weakly because I was horribly shaken by the question. "Why aren't you instrusted in my sandbox?" he insisted, looking at me as though I had Captain Kangaroo's head under my armpit, "I'm working in it you know." "Mommy's busy making lunch, dear," I answered sweetly, "but • I'll come anyway and have a look." A quick jaunt to the backyard revealled that he had indeed been working in the sandbox. In fact, he'd been working so hard that he'd forgotten to turn off the garden hose and the box was filled to the brim with muddy water. I ran to the tap to shut off the source of the trouble. "I need to have the sand wet else I can't build anything," whined my son. "But you have it far too wet," I explained. "The sand won't hold its shape if it is that sloppy." My little one sat down on his haunches and placed his chin in his hands. "You're not instrusted in me," he explained. "There's nothing to do anymore." I pointed to his $30 bicycle and his $15 wagon and his $5 bat and ball and a box of toys hearing assorted price tags. "There's lots of things to do," I retorted in a rather high sounding voice. "I took you to Get a New `Muffler Now! Don't wait till it's too late. We stock a complete line for all makes. Backed by service. ART'S SUPERIEST ALBERT ST. "Stew," I said, trying to avoid his eyes. "Do you like stew?" "No," he complained, "I like begetables but not that other stuff." "Then you can eat potatoes and salad," I suggested. He was quiet. "Can I watch cartoons?" he asked. "It is just about lunch time," BY MRS, H. F. BERRY JULY 16 — Brucefield and community were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Donald Adams. Maybe he heard that phrase somewhere on television. I can't imagine that he actually understands the implications of his charge. But all the same it has unnerved me and I find Pm trying in all kinds of crazy new ways to show him I am "instrusted" in him. Surely this isn't some new planned tactic of his ...
