Hunter with a good attendance of members, friends and children. The president, Mrs. Joe Hunking was in charge pf the meeting which opened by singing "The Maple Leaf Forever" followed by prayers led by Mrs. Ted klunking and the Lord's Prayer. The minutes of the previous Meeting were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Elliott Lapp. The financial statement was given by the treasurer Mrs. Torn Cunningham. The roll call was answered by each member telling what they enjoyed most at Christmas time. It was reported that the contribution, had been sent to theChildren's Aid Society and a silver collection was, taken, to send a birthday gift to the club's foster Korean child. The roll call at the next meeting will be a donation to the support of this Korean child. An interesting program was given with readings by the children and Christmas carols sung in-between the numbers. Several of the children recited nursery rhymes with the modern version and they proved very entertaining. Mrs. Ted Hunking read an article, "The Gift of the Magi." The adults played a game on indoor snowball against the children and gifts were distributed to the children. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Hunter, assisted by Mm, Roy Daer and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and a half hour of social fellowship enjoyed. Plans were made for the next meeting with the program to be in charge of Mrs. Joe Verwey and Mrs. Lorne Hunking. The lunch committee to be Mrs. Walter Cunningham and Mrs. Ted Hunking and the meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham. WOMEN'S MISSIONARY SOCIETY +, The January meeting of the Women's Missionary Society of Knox Presbyterian Church was held atlilicolfonie l.Of-,MiSPViaiile Raithby with the president Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson in charge. After giving the call to worship, the hymn, "The Lord is My Shepherd" was sung with Mrs. Donald Haines at the piano. The scripture reading Psalm 121 was read by Mrs. Sanderson and she gave the message for the new year and based it on helping your neighbor and brother. She closed hex meditation with prayer. The minutes of the December meeting were read by the secretary Mrs. Alvin Leatherland. It was announced that Mrs. Leatherland had knit 17 little vests for the relief work that the Voice of Women do in overseas work. It was decided to make a layette and several volunteered to make parts of it. Programs were given out for the coming year. Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell presented the treasurer, Mrs. Donald Haines with a cash donation from Mrs. Harry, Eve of Leaside in memory of her mother, the late. Mrs. Harry Govier. After singing the hymn, "Come Let Us Sing," Mrs. Haines introduced the new study book "Dare to Reconcile" and explained the different ways we can be involved in Christian life, The offering was received and dedicated with prayer. The roll call was answered by paying Of fees. Mrs, Robert Phillips played a medley of favorite hymns on the piano. Mrs. Sanderson closed with prayer. The used stamps were collected by Mrs. Leatherland. The Ladles Aid meeting, was held with Mrs. Major Youngblut in charge. A short business session was held and it was decided to buy the flannelette for the layette. The meeting was closed by singing Grace and lunch was served by Mrs.. Raithby assisted by Mrs. Alvin Leatherland.. Obituary Obituary WILLIAM HENRY GROSS Funeral services were held at the Arthur Funeral Home on Friday, January 9 for William Henry Gross who passed away suddenly in Clinton hospital. He was in his 78th year. , He was the son of the late Annie Plaetzer and George Gross and was born and resided all his life on his farm in Hullett Township. He was married to the , former Ida Regele who predeceased him 10 years ago. He was a member, of Knox United Church, where he served as church trustee. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Elva) Brown; Walton and five sons, Harold, Carmen, Clayton, Ronald and Gordon all of RR 1, Auburn; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. William (Clara) Koehler of Crediton, and two brothers, Rev. Lawrence of Beamsville and Ernest of Grand Bend. He was predeceased by one son, Walter. Pastor Alfred Fry conducted the services and pallbearers were Bert Daer, John Daer, Sidney McClinchey, Ted East, Gordon Plunkett and Major Youngblut. Burial took place in Union cemetery, Blyth. Flowerbearers were ,Lawrence Plaetzer and Kenneth McDougall. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY The annual meeting of the. will be held on January 19th in the Auburn Memorial Community Hall. Colored slides of a trip to the Maritimes will be shown by Mrs. Donald Haines. A summary of the year's work will be given and there will be door prizes. Everyone is invited to come and hear about the work the society did last year in beautifying the village. PERSONALS Mr. Eugene Dobie of Toronto visited last week one day with Miss Margaret Jackson. The January meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute will be in charge of Mrs. Arnold Craig, convener of Agriculture and Canadian Industries, she has as her speaker, Mrs. Louis Blake of Brussels who will tell about the growing of apples. This meeting will be held on Jan. 20 in the Auburn Community Memorial hall. We are sorry to report that Mr. Robert Chamney is a patient in Goderich hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mrs. William Moss returned home last Saturday from a few days a patient in Goderich hospital. Mrs. Walter Slichtiing is a patient in Goderich hospital where she underwent surgery last Thursday, Mrs, Harry Armstrong is a patient in Clinton hospital. Winners of the Silver Dollars draw for the Children at Slater's General store last week were Wayne Powell, Brent Andrews, Brian McClinchey, David Glousher and Raymond de Boer. Mrs. Edwin Cartwright returned last week to Huronview after spending two weeks with her son Donald Cartwright, Mrs. Cartwright, David, Derrick and Lorie, Rev, and Mrs. William Maines of Goderich visited one day last week, with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips, We are happy to report that Mr. Phillips is able to be out after his stay in Goderich hospital due to a fall. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt packed a bale for St. Mark's Anglican Church Women last week which was sent to Mr. and Mrs. George Clark at Creighton, Sask. for distribution there to the needy in that district. Mr. and Mrs, William Rueger, Ronnie and Carol of Clinton visited on Sunday with their daughter Mrs. Donald Cartwright, Mr. Cartwright and family. Sherriff and Mrs, Harry Sturdy of Goderich visited last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Barnby Cade, Patrick, Robert, Daniel, Andrew and Kathaleen of St. Marys visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Trommer , and Connie. Mr. Ralph Trommer of Kitchener spent the weekend with his parents. Clintonian Club holds meeting The January meeting of the Clintonian Club was held in the Town Hall. The president, Mrs. Hartley Managhan, opened the meeting. Eighteen members answered the roll call. Mrs, Russell Colciough read the minutes of the last meeting arid. Mrs. Frank" Cummings gave, the financial report. Flower and card reports were given. Forty cards were sent out at Christmas and 11 flower presents were sent to sick and shut.ins. Treats for 10 at Huronview that have no relatives were given. During the business period it was decided to hold a euchre party in the Town Hall January 20 at 2 p.m. The social committee is to look after the lunch. Dutch auction articles were won by Mrs. Viola Lampman and Mrs. Hartley Managhan. Mrs, T. M. Falconer won the mystery prize. Mrs. Leppington reported that a quilt was just about completed and it was decided to quilt it at Mrs. Hartley Managhan's. The club has two other quilts to be quilted later.
