The Pee Wee Ponies finally
defeated their arch rivals from
Goderich in an exciting match
December 22.
Goderich led 2-1 late in the
second period when Doug
Marshall scored while Clinton
had the man advantage. He
picked up the puck between the
Clinton defencemen and beat
Cord Gilfillan in the Clinton
goal with a high shot into the
corner.
Steve Cook scored in the early
minutes of the second period to
tie.the score 1.1.
In the last period Clinton's
defence and forwards
back-checked Goderich and their
efforts resulted in two goals.
Robin McAdam hit Steve Cook
on a rink-wide pass at the six
,minute mark. Cook broke
around the defence and scored a
beautiful shot. Less than a
minute later, centre Neil
Colquhoun carried the puck
deep into the Goderich corner,
then flipped a perfect pass to
Jamie Thompson for the
winning goal. Cord Gilfillan's
superb goaltending late in the
third period gave the Ponies
their ninth win of the season.
On boxing day Gilfillan again
had a strong first two periods,
coming up with key saves when
the front line, made miscues in a
game in Hensel].
Neil Colquhoun deked out
three players to score at 8:05 of
the second period with the assist
going to Jamie Thompson, The
third period found the Clinton
team skating and checking well.
The line' of Neil Colquhoun
David Clynick and Jamie
Thompson had several excellent
scoring chances.
Colquhoun passed from
behind the net to Clynick who
wipped a shot over the goalie's
shoulder. Five minutes later,
John Graham blasted a shot
from the point. The goalie
blocked the shot but Colquhoun
picked up the rebound and
slipped it to Thompson who was
standing beside the net,
unprotected.
The Ponies travel to Clinton,
New York the day after New
Years.

The Colts turned on the steam
to dump the Elora Rocks 10-2 in
their first Sunday home date in
WOAA Intermediate action.
The game was also the home
debut for their new coach
Clarence Neilans. Previous coach
Raymond Garon resigned
because of business pressures.
Another change in the executive
was the resignation of President
Ted McClellough. , The
president's duties now .fall on
the shoulders of Manager' Bud
Schoenhals.
The Colts added some new
blood for this game with the
addition to the lineup of former
juniors, Cam Colquhoun and
Archie Pickett. Colquhoun
quickly showed his talent with a
three-goal effort-even though he
had not been practising while
attending school in Toronto.
Although Pickett did not pick
up any points in the game he
showed good checking and
wasn't Shy about throwing his
weight around in the corners. tie
will be with the club for the rest
of the season and should be a
great asset as he gets into
condition.
The first period and a half of
the game was a duel between
Lorne Daer in the Clinton net
and Gerry Keating, the Elora
goalie. Derwin Carter was set up
in the first minute by Bud Boyes
and Butch Murney for the only
goal in the first period.
Elora's D. Watt was left open
in front of the Colt net after
only 22 seconds of the second
period for the first goal for the
visitors. Two minutes later
Colquhoun banged in a rebound
from Randy Glew for his first
goal.
' Carter netted his second goal
to put Clinton out in front 3-1
but Watt again scored for Elora
with Clinton shorthanded. Four
minutes later Colquhoun scored
a goal while falling backwards in
front of the net:
The Elora defence completely
ignored Harvey Dale as he went
in for close-in goals. A two man
break by -Mel Hokner and Paul
Draper gave Draper his second
goal of the season.
In the third period the Elora
goalie was fantastic. He was
injured twice on hard shots and
although beaten for three goals,
he stopped nearly 20 shots.
Butch Fleet wrapped in a
rebound, Butch Murney hit for a
long shot midway through the
period, and Colquhoun put the
score into the double figures
with only 30 seconds left in the
game.
The next home game will be
Sunday against Seaforth at 8
p.m. 5,,
1,,
Away Games
In two away games last week
the Colts were bombed 13.2 in
Kincardine and 12-7 in Wiarton.
Newyt Collins was in the net for
both games as regular goal
tender Lorne Daer was not able
to attend.
The strong Kincardine club,
with good goaltending by Rick
Kellestene, scored six in the first
period, three and four while
Clinton had goals by Butch Fleet
in the second and Paul Draper in
the third. Draper's goal ended a
• season long scoring slump.
The Wiarton game was a
seesaw battle until late in the
game when Wiarton scored six
unanswered goals. Derwin
Carter's two early goals and
singles by Butch Murney, Paul
Draper, Randy Clew and Bud
Boyes kept the score to 6-6
before Wiarton went on their
spree. Carter finished off his
three-goal night late in the third
period.
•
Pee Wees finally beat Goderich
second period and another six in
the third while Mitchell managed
three goals. Hat tricks were
scored by Bill Cantelon, Brian
Langelle, and Mike Anstett,
while Robert Riehl had two and
Rod Campbell added one.
The Bantams moved into first
place in' the league with another
impressive win over second-place
Seaforth.
Danny Colquhoun scored
three second period goals in the
four-goal period. Paul Kay
scored the other on a passing
play from Rick Cameron and
Robert Riehl. Seaforth beat
Robert Andrews for one in the
first paled and another in the
third. The 4-2 loss was only their
second of the year, both to
Clinton.
Midgets
The Clinton Lions won the
second half of the two
doubleheaders with Mitchell. In
Clinton, the' club built up a 4.2
lead by the end of the second
period, then matched Mitchell's
two goals in the third.
Mack Jenkins hit for- two
goals, while Calvin Fre mlin, Dave
Fawcett, Ron Graham, and Gary ,
Cummings scored singles. Back in
Mitchell on Monday, the Lions
outscored Mitchell four to two
in the first and third periods for
an impressive 8-4 win. Ron
Graham and Gary Cummings
scored two goals a piece and
singles by Dave Fawcett, Jim
Toop, Mark Jenkins and Randy
Blake.
House League
In Squirt House League play
the Leafs downed the Canadiens
5-1 on goals by John Hart (with
three) and Dick Mathews (with
two). The lone Canadien goal
came from Peter Thompson.
The Red Wings defeated
Rangers 2.0 with Robert. Taylor
and Terry Gordner scoring goals.
