That’s the way it looked after team officials met playoffs in the local Thursday night. The six “A” clubs week on a series of round robins and positional playoffs that will keep them busy well into April. It’s doubtful if the Cyclone group playdowns for the MacMillan trophy can be staged after that. Although most of the team managers favor a Cyclone play off, it’s impossible to see how they’ll be able to work them in after the classification series are over. Start With Round Robin The “A” playdowns start with a round-robin involving all six teams that will last until the first week in March. Two clubs will be eliminated in this series. The remainin; (only team battle robin three top four clubs after this round will play positional semi - final series (first and third, second and fourth) and the winners of these will compete for the W.O. A.A. “ A reasonable estimate time it will take for this sched ule (probably 66 games in all) is 12 weeks. That means the “A” playoffs will continue until the middle of April. Rivals Meet Meanwhile, the two "C" dubs. will play a to decide the team. The Anderson boys, John Frank, combined to save Mohawks Strive For Fifth Spot Although there are only four games remaining in the Cyclone schedule, three of the 10 posi tions in the st a n d i n g could change before it’s all over. Exeter Mohawks could beat out the Lucan Irish for fifth spot if they win against St. Marys Saturday night and the Irish drop their remaining tilt to Strathroy. This would give the local tribe a one-point margin over the Lu can squad. St. Marys could overtake Hen sall for seventh position if the Alerts captured one of their games with Zurich and Exeter. The stone town gang and the Finks are tied for seventh posi tion now with 13 points each. Tie For Third Zurich and Strathroy, current ly deadlocked in third spot, have one game each to play. If either loses, the other could get sole possession of the position. Forest Lakesides topped the league during the regular season with a twQ-victory edge pn Qpde- rich, their closest rivals. Gerry Hesse captured the Gerry Smith trophy with the best net- minding record. The Smith award is given to the goaltender who has played the most games with the team which has the least goals scored against it. Pontlacs finished the season with a 50- against record, or 2,77 goals per game. Forest and Bryce Dafoe placed second with 53 goals against, an average of 2.94. Although both goalies have one more game to play, it ap pears that Strathroy’s Jessiman and Exeter’s Turner will place third and fourth. Assists Help Rowett Eddie Rowett’s big assist mark puts him well out in front in the scoring race. According to incomplete records to date, the Irish star 'has 39 assists and 18 goals.
