A directors’ meeting, which followed the annual session re­ turned this year’s slate of officers to act in 1954. Urge More Weed Spray A resolution, passed at meeting, will be forwarded the agricultural committee of Huron C-ounty that the council use more weed roads. Several that in some instances the county mower operated in their particu­ lar areas, after the weeds had gone to seed. * W. R. Dougall, county weed in­ spector, said that weed control is something that applies to every farmer. He said that there were in 1953, six townships in the county that sprayed all their roads, while several others stay­ ed and mowed weeds as well. “Weeds are moisture-soapers, they lower the grade of crops, they harbor insects and they in­ crease the cost of production. Weed losses in Ontario, are re­ ported to be $4.65 per tillable acre,” concluded the inspector. G. W. Montgomery, in his re­ port of the 1953 activities re­ viewed the first annual banquet being held, a bus trip to the provincial convention, the Seed Fair in March in which 59 ex­ hibitors submitted close to 150 exhibits; a twilight meeting in July; a one-day bus trip in Au­ gust to Lincoln county; a county thorne and brush control day in October.
